The Principal is responsible for initiating and developing new business relationships for the Firm by targeting qualifying prospects for all Firm service lines, as well as continuing to expand business relationships with current clients. In addition, the Principal evaluates business needs of prospects and client, introduces the services necessary to fulfill those needs, and monitors client satisfaction during on-going engagements.Duties and Responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key Results
People:
Create a positive team member experience.Coordinates with Practice Leaders regarding their targets on which the Business Developer is the marketer or record owner.Client:
Identifies and pursues additional business with existing clients of the Firm which the Business Development Director is the marketer.Cold calls and maintains contact with prospects and clients through telephone, email, and mail.Meets with prospects regarding potential engagements.Value:
Identifies, researches, and pursues prospects to generate new business for the Firm.Builds and maintains key relationships with significant Firm prospects.Maintains entries in the Firm Prospect Register and/or Microsoft® CRM.Pursues tax/geography/industry specific issues with prospects based on information provided by Firm Principals and Practice Leaders.Coordinates sales efforts in order to perform joint selling activities.Attends tax conferences, both local and national, in order to generate new leads of qualified prospects.Negotiates deals, contract development, and due diligence.Understands service line offerings with sufficient depth to be able to discuss service line offerings with prospects.Maintains an understanding of the Firm’s active alliance partners’ products and service lines in order to sell alliance partner services to prospects and clients, if appropriate.Assists Marketing Department with promotional events and conferences and provides feedback regarding marketing materials.Utilizes internet tools (i.e. OneSource) to research for opportunities at prospects and clients.Stays current with tax issues that may create opportunities for sales into prospects and clients.Assists with other projects as needed.Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) or equivalent from a four-year college or university; or six to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic skills in Microsoft® Excel and Access, intermediate skills in Microsoft® Outlook, and advanced skills in Microsoft® Word, CRM, and internet navigation/research.
Certificates and Licenses:
Juris Doctor, Certified Public Accountant, and Certified Member of the Institute preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position requires limited supervisory responsibilities of the Business Development Department, including training employees, assigning work, and checking work for accuracy and completeness.
Work Environment:
Standard indoor working environment.Position requires regular interaction with management of the Firm; Interface with external vendors, targets, and clients also necessary.Travel requirements – 50%-75%.Equal Opportunity Employer: disability/veteran
