The principal will provide strategic and instructional leadership, overseeing the day-to-day management of the school's operations. The Principal is the instructional leader and is primarily responsible for ensuring that all students achieve high academic levels. The Principal will set instructional direction, develop and manage the school's educational program, and support, develop, and evaluate instructional staff within the school's mission and charter. The Principal serves in a co-leadership model with the Executive Director. The Principal reports directly to the Board of Directors. Key Duties and Responsibilities of the Principal Instructional Leadership ● Provide strategic leadership for school improvement and development ● Lead and manage the school's academic program, ensuring it aligns with the school's mission and charter. ● Set the instructional direction and ensure high academic achievement for all students. ● Regularly evaluate lesson plans and observe classrooms to encourage the use of diverse instructional strategies and promote student success. Teacher Supervision and Development ● Recruit, supervise, and evaluate instructional staff, providing ongoing feedback and conducting yearly performance reviews. ● Support teachers in using student achievement data to reflect on and enhance their teaching practices. ● Plan and implement professional development opportunities that nurture teacher leadership, aligning with the school's mission. ● Ensure all professional staff members develop and maintain a Professional Improvement Plan (PIP). Data-Driven School Improvement ● Collect and analyze data regarding student needs and achievement, using this information to recommend program improvements to the Board. ● Leverage data from state assessments and other sources to refine instruction and support decision-making. ● Responsible for the completion of SUNY Accountability Plan and any reporting with academic data for Charter Schools Institute. School and Staff Culture ● Oversee extracurricular activities, discipline systems, and personnel management to ensure a safe, orderly, and aspirational school culture. ● Build strong relationships with parents, families, and the community to foster cooperation and support. ● Regularly communicate school progress and needs to the Board of Directors. Leadership and Collaboration ● Promote high standards for all students, staff, and faculty, maintaining a motivational and inclusive school environment. ● Recruit, supervise, and evaluate leadership team members, providing ongoing feedback and conducting yearly performance reviews. ● Establish a shared leadership culture with the Executive Director, ensuring that all operational and instructional goals are met. ● Attend and participate in all Board and Board committee meetings o The Principal is expected to attend all Board Meetings, committee/working groups, within reason, and to share updates and bring back committee recommendations to be implemented in practice. ● Jointly with the board, establish annual goals for his/her performance. ● Keep the Board informed of all academic and instructional matters, including contributing to a data dashboard for updates, and work with board members on the various committees. Qualifications: ● 3-5 years of experience as a school leader (principal or vice-principal preferred) with significant areas of responsibility ● Urban School setting experience preferred ● MA or MEd (preferred).
