SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop curriculum to address needs of students within NYS Learning Standards Collaborate with school districts and out-of-state schools in identifying student population, completing screening, and placement of students. Develop evidence-based outcome measures to assess the efficacy of the educational program. Advertise staff openings, recruit staff, interview and hire staff; conduct observations and complete evaluations in accordance with agency guidelines; provide opportunities for professional growth for staff. Assist with purchasing and invoicing of educational materials. Collaborate on systems that cross-over between the educational and residential areas that reinforce and enhance the development of skills and provide a continuum of services. Acquire up-to-date information on all Federal, State, and local regulations governing the school. Develop policies and procedures for the school in order to maintain compliance with applicable regulations. Monitor, implement, and maintain school-wide philosophy and standards of behavior. Maintain on-going contact with Regional Associate of State Education Department. Monitor educational program through reviews and observations. Provide reports, presentations, and information as required by the Program Director, Assistant Executive Director, and/or Chief Program Officer. Oversee all duties of administrative clerical staff, including maintaining complete, up-to-date confidential student records, and personnel files. Write program descriptions and other necessary reports for submission to State Education Department. Participate in budget development; administer budget spending for school. Member of the Continuing Quality Improvement Committee. Develop and distribute orientation materials and personnel practices handbook. Conduct orientation of staff to school and agency policies and procedures; participate in orientation of residential staff as requested. Assign teachers, etc. to appropriate classes; monitor job performance. Monitor all classroom scheduling, utilization of facilities and resources.  Conduct staff meetings. Coordinate medical, clinical, and educational teams. Ensure IEPs are in compliance and that related services are provided accordingly. Develop and instruct staff on philosophy and implementation of behavior management system, and the functional and academic educational program. Review relaxation room use and communication logs.

 

Other Duties

Act as liaison between residence and school; coordinate continuity of planning between residence and school. Maintain relationships with families; ensure continuity of planning. Ensure compliance with local fire department regulations, including fire drills. Comply with safety/building codes. Develop long-range plans for students regarding future and transition planning. Represent the school at agency and outside events. Serve as member of the Leadership Team, along with the Program Director, Assistant Program Director, and Director of Facilities.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

NYS School Administrator & Supervisor (SAS) or School District Administrator (SDA) certification.

Minimum of 3 years of experience with individuals with developmental disabilities.
