Easterseals New York is searching for a Principal to lead its Kessler Center School.

*We offer Competitive salary and $3,000 sign-on bonus* 

Salary Range: $80,000- $90,000

What You’ll Do

As Principal you will organize the development and coordinate all school educational programs. You will identify educational goals and objectives that align the school's operations and budgets to support these goals. You will analyze student data and plans/adapts instruction to ensure student achievement. Interview and recommend the appointment of teachers and other staff members for the school. You will plan for the supervision and evaluation of all staff members and perform classroom observations and provides appropriate feedback to teachers. Plan faculty and personnel meetings to ensure alignment to the school goals and plan. You will also develop a Professional Development Plan that provides training for staff members based on individual, school, and student needs.

Essential Job Functions:

Organizes parent/family conferences and participates when needed. Ensures smooth day-to-day operations across the school following state and federal regulatory requirements. Administers the school and its instructional program in all its facets Interprets and implement Board policies and administrative regulations Manages the school in accordance with Fedcap policies and administrative regulations, budget limitations, and employee and other contracts Promotes positive action toward the realization of school objectives through efficient procedures and the establishment of staff, student and community committees Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school's professional and other assigned staff Develops methods toward evaluating student program toward stated educational objectives Directs and implements the evaluation process for certificated and non-certificated staff members, which leads to increased staff competency Establishes guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline Consults regularly with and coordinates the services of the resource personnel so that all classroom teachers may receive effective assistance Utilizes all resources of the school system and the community in developing the most effective educational program Establishes and maintains an effective learning and working climate within the school building, and motivates staff and students to participate successfully in the learning process Maintains close contact with all interested parties, including students, school staff, parents, and the community Acts as liaison between the school and community, interpreting activities and policies of the school, and encouraging community participation in school life Develops a program of public relations in order to further the community's understanding and support of the educational program Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field Assists in placing pupils into groups so that the abilities of each child will be fully developed and his/her needs met Establishes and maintains positive relationships with local, state, national and international organizations which are conceded with the education of handicapped children. Monitor and assure quality treatment for special education, clinical and ancillary service provisions for students from admission to discharge. Supervise the effective utilization of medical and professional consultant personnel. Coordinate student supervision, treatment, and other activities with residential care managers. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of effective discipline strategies and motivation, curriculum development and program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis.

You’re a great fit for this role if you have:

Master's degree in Education or Special Education from an accredited college or university required. New York School Administrator Certification or School Building Leader Certification (CAS).  A minimum of three (3) years in teaching and/or administration and working with children and youth with developmental disabilities.

Salary $80,000-$90,000 Sign-on bonus $3,000

The Kessler Center, located in Rochester, NY, is an approved private special education (853) school offering both residential (CRP) and day placements for students with developmental disabilities. The Kessler Center is an available option for school districts seeking an out-of-district placement for students who need an alternative educational path due to their developmental disabilities. The Kessler Center has broad expertise working with students across the entire range of developmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders, as well as with children who struggle with behavioral challenges.
