Principal Application Architect, Developer Innovation & Productivity

 WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

As a Principal Application Architect, Developer Innovation & Productivity at RBC, you will lead the charge in fostering a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and productivity within our software development teams. You will be pivotal in developing patterns and setting both architecture and technology standards to ensure RBC architects robust solutions, improves development processes, streamlines our delivery pipeline, and ultimately drives the creation of high-quality, valuable software for our customers.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Drive the adoption of best practices in coding, application architecture, and development processes with a focus on developer experience, innovation and productivity.Collaborate closely with stakeholders and development teams to understand needs, propose solutions, and ensure alignment with strategic goals.Lead initiatives to evaluate and introduce new tools and technologies that can enhance our development lifecycle and deliver competitive advantages.Advocate for and contribute to the creation of maintainable, scalable, and future-proof architectures, patterns and standards.Facilitate face-to-face conversations and workshops to effectively convey information within the enterprise.Ensure continuous attention to engineering excellence and good design, thereby driving agility and productivity.Simplify processes and systems, maximizing throughput, and removing bottlenecks to developer productivity, while adhering to governance and standards.Provide mentorship and guidance to developers and architects, fostering a culture of learning and growth.Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, assessing their applicability to our goals and objectives.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

 Must have:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.Extensive experience in application architecture with a proven track record of innovation and productivity improvements.Strong understanding of agile methodologies and principles, particularly those emphasizing collaboration, responsiveness to change, and customer focus.Proficiency in a variety of programming languages and technologies, with an openness to embracing new tools and methods.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead cross-department initiatives and interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach teams towards achieving their highest potential.Experience with DevOps practices, continuous integration, and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.

Nice-to-have: 

Understanding of application security principles and practices, including experience with secure coding, threat modeling, and security assessments.Experience with performance testing, profiling, and optimization of applications and systems.Having good understanding of Generative AI Large Language Models, their strengths, weaknesses and how they can be applied to drive developer productivity and innovation
