Principal Applications Systems Analyst (Red Hat)

The primary purpose of the Principal Applications Systems Analyst position is to manage and coordinate all operational user service of the supported systems. Responsible for the support model related to the systems. Provide customer-focused, proactive systems management processes and policies to ensure maximum server health and availability. This position is classified as essential. The employee must be available for Hurricane Ride Team assignment and or Hurricane Recovery Team assignment per institutional policies. The position requires carrying a pager at all times and working varied hours as needed, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays to complete assigned tasks and project deliverables on schedule.
Management / Consultation
a. Provides direct supervision of support team.
b. Actively manages projects assigned to team to include milestone development, resource assignment, timelines, and reporting.
c. Trains, coaches and monitors direct reports on technical and operational functions, operations and procedures.
d. Consult with departments requesting new systems or upgrades of existing systems.
e. Provides timely and concise input on team members' performance throughout review periods.
f. Manage the daily maintenance of system platforms located in the data center and facilities including operating systems, applications, and hardware.
g. Apply system standards to ensure continued reliability of the institution's systems infrastructure.
h. Directs support staff in problem determination and solution; train systems staff and Supervise training schedules for staff; may attend conferences and seminars; may perform management duties in absence of manager when so directed.
Analysis, diagnosis, and problem solving
a. Assist in strategy formulation related to system operations.
b. Assist in systems troubleshooting of various protocols including TCP/IP.
c. Define system standards to ensure continued reliability of the institution's systems infrastructure.
d. Coordinate the monitoring and maintenance of institutional systems infrastructure.
e. Works with staff on systems capacity planning.
f. Develops position papers and recommendations (i.e., system architecture, system security, operating system levels).
Customer Service
a. Maintain working relationship with all IS leaders as well as departmental systems administrators and their department heads.

Bachelor's degree.

Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT)
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)

Experience Required:
Seven years of progressive software systems implementation and support, business systems process analysis and design, Epic software, or domain to include two years lead/supervisory experience. May substitute require education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
Preferred Experience:
Ten years in healthcare software systems implementation and support, business systems process analysis and design with three years at MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) or seven years equivalent scope in other healthcare institution or industry.
• Experience with, RHEL Linux, Ubuntu Linux, and or VMware ESX
• Working knowledge of authentication and access control using LDAP and Active Directory.
• ITIL knowledge and /or certification desired.
• Working knowledge of network services such as reverse proxy, SSL, Load Balancing, Domain Name Services highly desirable.
• Familiarity with analyzing system logs and identifying potential issues with computer systems. Experience with log management solutions (e.g. Splunk).
• Knowledge of specific hardware and software in use at The University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center.
