About the Role

 

Reporting to the Manager WA Community, you will be a senior member of the team responsible for implementing BHP’s Corporate Affairs strategy in Western Australia.

 

You will be an exceptional communicator with strong influencing and advocacy skills, comfortable working within a matrix organisation and interacting with senior external stakeholders including governments, Traditional Owners and industry competitors, and developing meaningful relationships with community members, organisations and other interested stakeholders. You will have a deep understanding of the principles of social impact and public participation, with experience working at a senior level in community relations or related disciplines within large organisations.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

 

Delivering proactive, forward-looking community engagement strategies to protect and grow BHP’s relationship with key stakeholders; Providing subject matter expertise and strategic recommendations on complex community issues and operational considerations, including preparation of presentations for external audiences and other collateral as required; Community relations and external stakeholder liaison; Working as part of cross-functional teams to help deliver on the strategic priorities of BHP and strengthen the company’s social value proposition both in WA and across the company more broadly; Providing guidance to Asset leadership on community risks and relevant mitigating actions; Development and implementation of social investment partnerships and plans, including contract design and management; Providing input to the development of Asset and Functional strategies and plans; Supporting the internal and external communications plans of the Asset and associated communication materials and tools.


This role is permanent full-time, based in Newman.

About You

 

We are seeking a proactive, highly motivated professional with demonstrated experience across a broad range of external affairs competencies, particularly community development and stakeholder engagement.

 

You will be comfortable interacting with senior business and community leaders and developing trustful, mutually beneficial relationships with community members, organisations and other interested stakeholders.

 

You are a team player with a proven ability to work independently while utilising and contributing to the strengths of the team to achieve success.

 

As the successful candidate you will have the following attributes and experience:

 

You will be comfortable providing advice to business leaders on community sentiment, as well as broader BHP operational and organisational impacts, opportunities and emerging risks within the community; Working knowledge of best-practice stakeholder engagement principles such as IAP2; Well-developed risk mitigation and issues management skills; Demonstrated capacity to simplify complex technical concepts and develop compelling, relevant and tailored narratives that both inform and influence decision making; Experience working within a complex matrix structure, managing multiple priorities and advising business leaders at a senior level across disciplines; Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; Experience managing social investment budgets and delivering multi-year community development programs; Experience working in regional or remote communities preferred.   About Our Process
