Principal Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence Professional – Peterborough, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid work arrangement available of 2 to 3 days per week in the office)

 

About the Opportunity

 

Westinghouse Electric Canada is a leading supplier of custom equipment, process systems and engineering consultant services for the Nuclear industry in Canada.  The successful candidate will join an innovative team that supports Westinghouse’s mission to provide clean energy solutions. As a part of our growing team at the Peterborough location, the successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting and growing the operation by providing leadership of critical improvement initiatives focused on achieving the highest levels of operational excellence. 

 

What will you do?

Your day to day: 

Lead cross-functional teams in execution of projects focused on improving operational effectiveness. Employ modern conventional improvement philosophies and processes (e.g. Lean, 6 Sigma, VSM) to assess specific opportunities for viability and help identify specific focus areas. Establish ROI for the improvement based on objective data and/or best-practice that provides justification for the proposed project. Identify, manage and report on cost and schedule commitments associated with improvement projects.  Overall ownership of progress per the project plan and business commitments Liaise with other WEC operations to leverage best practices, assess standard tools/processes for implementation in the Peterborough Operation Lead the development and optimization of processes that enhance our operational effectiveness Support similar activities at other similar WEC facilities, where your skills/experience can enable further improvement at those locations.

 

What will you bring?

Who you are: 

Degree or diploma in a relevant post-secondary technical field Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in a custom equipment manufacturing environment Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations. Strong interpersonal skills, experience working effectively in a team environment. Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives and using typical tools as PDCA, Value Stream Mapping, Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, Gemba Walks and/or Root Analysis,

 

Preferred:

Experience in the design of custom equipment, typically: steel structures, hoisting systems, mechanical drive/positioning systems and shielded containers. Experience in design/fabrication of pressure retaining systems to CSA and ASME design codes. Experience in conceptual design development, design reviews and engineering change control processes. Knowledge of CanDU operating plants, including reactor components, supporting systems and balance of plant equipment. Six Sigma Green Belt Certification

 

This is a challenging leadership position that will require a solid technical background and extensive experience.  Strong interpersonal and communication abilities are essential to be successful in our team-based environment.
