JOB SCOPE
The Principal Data Scientist I for Operational Analytics leads the development of data-driven solutions and reporting on operational metrics for wireless network operations within Technology Operationsto spearhead process, organization, and fix-action efficiencies.
Utilizes analytical, statistical, and programming skills to clean, aggregate, and analyze large data sets and interpret results. This position requires a strong command of statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms, as well as a demonstrated practical ability to determine where to invest time, synthesize actionable findings across diverse assignments, and present findings to audiences with diverse agendas and varying levels of technical expertise.
Improve data-driven reporting that focuses the team on the biggest opportunities for improvement, reducing resolution time for issues through streamlined operations, improving the customer experience.
Hyper-focused on analytics of operational performance to improve network management processes, procedures, and identify automation opportunities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES
Plan and lead the complete analytics life-cycle for problem solving, including: requirements gathering, problem formulation, data grooming, data exploration, model prototyping, model validation, and algorithm productionalization.Plan effectively to ensure analytics products are flexible, modular, and contain reusable code base.Identify future technical needs of assigned projects to continue to grow capabilities of organization.Coordinate technical activities across projects and the organization.Interact with various stakeholders to understand their business needs, communicate project status and develop relationships to ensure satisfaction. Utilize experience to anticipate hurdles & recommend solutions in line with business needs.Create and drive project plans to help team achieve defined project goals within deadlines; proactively communicate status and escalate issues as needed.Lead large-scale exploratory data analyses for new data sources or new uses for existing data sources. Establish links across existing data sources and find new, interesting data correlations.Responsible for interpretation of results – for both causal inferences and predictive sensitivity and specificity.Synthesize appropriate recommendations for action and changes.Teach techniques and explain tools used to a broad set of business-intelligence, data, and analytics professionals with varied backgrounds.Exercise thought leadership and discretion in tailoring the tools, approaches, and data used to meet the needs of the particular problem. Lead teams to select, implement, and integrate new technologies into the team’s work process.Deliver results using metrics-driven analysis, andcommunicating the costs and tradeoffs of ideas to stakeholders and top management.Lead and integrate the work of others to produce high quality work products.Mentor and train junior team members and set strategic vision for assigned projects.BASIC / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, operations research and/or equivalent combination of education and experienceMinimum eight (8) years of Data manipulation and statistical modeling as a Scientist, Consultant, Architect, DBA, or Engineer experienceMinimum eight (8) years of SQL/R/SAS Programming experience
Minimum three (3) years of Lead the design, develop and deployment machine learning and analytics models
REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to read, write, speak and understand EnglishAdvanced-level skills in one or more scripting, analysis, or ETL languages, ability to readily read and adapt others’ code, and ability to rapidly learn new languages or techniquesExpert-level skills and experience with analysis language such as R and/or Python (including relevant packages) in support of advanced analyticsComprehensive experience and theoretical foundation of the properties of the major families of machine learning models (regression, decision trees, clustering, SVMs, neural networks)Experience with modern machine learning technology and tools in order to produce model scoring codeCommand of advanced mathematical concepts including calculus, PDEs, probability, and statistics, and the ability to independently learn any necessary additional conceptsEffective synthesis and presentation skillsAbility to communicate results and recommendations to a wide variety of audiences including executive leadershipUnderstanding of data architecture, data warehouse and data martsDemonstrated ability and desire to continually expand skill set, and learn from and teach othersExperience with other database and data store technologies, such as NoSQL, key-value, columnar, graph, and document.Extensive experience with large data sets and the tools to obtain, transform, and store data on Big Data and streaming servicesProgram, product, or project management experience delivering analytics resultsComprehensive background in Linux/Unix/CentOS or Windows installation and administrationAbility to identify and resolve end-to-end performance, network, server, cloud, and platform issuesPattern recognition and predictive modeling skillsEffective attention to detail with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple tasksPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with Hadoop, HIVE, SPARK, and/or SnowflakeKnowledge of other relevant tools such as SAS, SPSS, Alteryx, Linux
Knowledge of other relevant techniques such as text analysis and text mining
Operations-research background, in particular focused on large labor operations such as field ops, technical support, and sales
Background with cable and/ or telecommunicationsPossesses a deep understanding of FCAPS model and ITSM. Knowledge of wireless network systems and functions, such as RAN (5G gNB/CBSD WiFi 4/5/6/6E/7 AP), fiber backhaul, DOCSIS backhaul, core (Wireless Access Gateways, 5G- AMF, AUSF, SMF, UPF, PCF, NSSF, NEF, UDM, NRF, UDR, AF), EMS/OSS, BSS, 5G devices, and other ancillary systems. Working knowledge of 3GPP and IEEE standards. Understands service assurance process flows and triage.Thorough understanding of Business Cable, Internet and/or transport systems and services
Ability to lead matrix teams: must be comfortable in a highly visible role; a great consensus builder and the clear champion of their area of responsibility.
Ability to influence other organizations and rally key stakeholders within the company to achieve key objectives.
Ability to communicate with all levels of management and company personnel as well as in public forums.
Great organizational and office management skills.

The base pay for this position generally is between $110,800.00 and $196,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
