About the division 
The Water Consultancy Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges, offering fantastic opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically challenging work.  The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations and protecting our environment.  Our multi-disciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies, through outline and detailed design, to construction support and site supervision

Job Description

To help us meet the growing needs of our clients Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water and Wessex Water, we have opportunities for experienced electrical, instrumentation, control and automation (EICA) engineers in our offices in Wales and Bristol. You will be joining our multidisciplinary Water Consultancy Division, the centre of excellence within Mott MacDonald for everything to do with water. We work on a vast range of design projects covering, for example:

 

Water treatmentWater distribution and storageWastewater recyclingIndustrial process waterDesalinationIrrigationHydropowerFlood defence

 

We cover all phases of the project lifecycle from feasibility studies through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning to handover.  We provide specialist technical support to colleagues across our global business, offering fantastic opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically challenging work. Our clients include most UK water utility companies and many other governmental organisations and private companies in the UK and overseas.

 

We have contributed to projects as varied as the Leeds flood alleviation scheme, carbon management tools for Wessex Water, High Speed Rail 2, Thames Tideway, and strategic pipelines for Anglian Water.

 

You will undertake a wide range of EICA tasks, typically including:

Electrical power distribution designControl system designSpecifying local renewable and back-up generation systemsDeveloping plant layoutsCabling and installation designInstrumentation selectionLightning protection assessmentsWriting system control strategiesFactory and site acceptance tests of equipmentYou will work in close partnership with clients and contractors, building strong relationships that will enhance the company’s reputation and help secure further work.You will have opportunities to develop your career in the direction of people management, commercial success, or technical excellence, depending on your strengths and interests. 


Candidate Specification
What the candidate will bring/offer to the role. 

 

Essential: 

Qualified to HND level or higher in electrical, electronic or control engineering or a related discipline.Considerable experience in electrical and/or control engineering design/consultancy (please note we are recruiting for a range of experience levels)Good verbal and written communication skills in English Understanding of the importance of prioritising health, safety, and environmental issues.

 
Desirable: 

Master’s degree in electrical, electronic or control engineering, or a related discipline Chartered status with the Institution of Engineering and Technology or an equivalent bodyAny experience with industrial processes, water or wastewater treatment processes, pipeline hydraulics, pump stations, hydromechanical installations, SCADA and telecommunications, medium voltage distribution, low voltage distribution, DSEAR, FATs or SATs, will be beneficial.  (Please note that we are interested both in candidates with water experience and those who are interested in a change of sector.)
