Roles & Responsibilities
+ Develops and administers training initiatives, independently coaches and counsel’s managers at all levels on conflict resolution programs and tools to address a variety of complex employee relations issues and human resources processes and procedures.
+ Interprets employee relations policies and procedures, facilitates employee relations meetings with employees and managers with confidentiality, tact, and discretion. Acts as a mediator to resolve disputes while protecting the interests of both NJ TRANSIT its employees.
+ Takes lead in conducting in-depth investigations of complex employee relations complaints. Leads the research, development, and implementation efforts with respect to programs that identify and address employee concerns. Identifies remedial actions, makes determinations and recommendations as appropriate.
+ Takes lead in counseling supervisors and reviewing non-agreement progressive discipline decisions and documents, including performance monitoring, performance improvement plans and terminations. Takes lead in resolving employee related matters and performance management issues brought forward by management. Proposes and presents positive solutions to issues and drives positive change.
+ Works closely with General Counsel in reviewing complex employee cases to ensure compliance with NJ State and Federal Labor and Employment statutes and laws, and NJ TRANSIT policies and procedures. Represents NJ TRANSIT’s interest when interacting with the General Counsel on highly intricate cases or those requiring the highest level of discipline.
+ Attends legal hearings and depositions for the purpose of providing testimony on behalf of NJ TRANSIT. Works in conjunction with EEO/AA staff on complex cases that fall under both Employee Relations and EEO/AA.
+ Works with management on Reductions-in-Force. Prepares managers for notification meetings, attends meetings, and follows-up on sensitive situations.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Management or related area, and six (6) or more years’ experience in research and interpretation of human resources, employee relations issues, including five (5) years of demonstrated ability to manage complex employee relations issues and drafting investigation reports.
+ Exceptional writing skills required.
+ One year of closely related experience can be substituted for each year of education required.
Knowledge and Skills:
+ Ability to multi-task effectively while dealing with highly detailed activities is required.
+ Experience with conducting a high volume of investigations is necessary.
+ Highly organized, strong attention to detail and proven follow-up skills are needed.
+ Must be able to drive & take public transportation within the tristate area.
Physical Demands:
+ Ability to travel via public transportation or car throughout the Tri-State area.
+ Valid NJ Driver's License.
