The purpose of this role is to provide technical and commercial expertise in support of the operation and maintenance of Vodafone’s submarine cable network. Submarine cable projects have a typical value of $400 million and 99% of Vodafone’s international traffic is carried over submarine cables.
The role requires participation in consortia, either as O&M Group Chair or representative, or to support other Vodafone entities in order to establish the policies and procedures under which a cable system will be operated and repaired and to then deliver the services to support them. The role also requires project management of: marine and terrestrial suppliers; external contractors; interface to system owners; landing station parties and regulatory agencies.
Key accountabilities and decision ownership
• Coordinate and direct marine repair operations
• Take on lead O&M positions within Cable Consortia
• Support to Vodafone global entities to ensure their submarine cable assets can be operated and maintained
• Negotiation of marine support contracts
• Management of marine contractor and sub-contractors
Key performance indicators:
• Effective negotiation of marine support contracts. Cost + SLA
• Execution of all marine repair activities, to specification, to cost and to schedule
• Effective O&M management within Consortia cable systems.
• Submarine Cable O&M, Marine aspects in particular
• Cable/route engineering
• Cable laying operations
• Communications, negotiation and diplomacy within a Consortium environment
• Supplier management
Discretionary yearly bonus: 10%
Annual leave: 28 days + bank holidays + the opportunity to buy/sell/carry over 5 days/year
Charity days: 5 days/year
Maternity leave: 52 weeks out of which 39 weeks are fully paid + 13 weeks half pay and 6 months - working 4 days, getting paid 5
Private pension: You can contribute up to 5% of your basic pay with 2:1 matching from Vodafone up to 10%.
