Job Summary

The Principal Engineer is a key leader at GSI and serves as a player/coach.  The Principal Engineer is expected to teach, mentor, and develop their team of engineers to drive Elegant Design, complete and correct estimating, and outstanding client service.  The Principal Engineer is also responsible and accountable for all estimating and engineering performed within their assigned geographic region and/or client-sector.

This position is a Hybrid role based in the Denver, CO Metro region of the US and up to 25% travel will be required.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions Duties and Responsibilities

Provide Technical Leadership to the Design Team:Provide Analysis, design, and estimation of projects from simple to complexFunction as Engineer of Record (EOR) for projectsEnsure Elegant design and design efficiencyMonitor quality of deliverablesServe as external technical expert supporting GSI technical reputation and in client meetings and negotiationsIdentifies and coordinates the use of external consultants and SMEs, including contract negotiation, review of work products, and approving invoicingTeam Leadership:Ensure and guide the professional development of team membersReview and balance workload leveling across the teamResponsible for hiring best in class talent for the work of today and the futureLead efforts to improve and sustain team engagementManage team assignments according to work demands, skills of team members, and developmental goalsMonthly 1-on1s, mid and end of year reviewsProvide leadership on Process Design and Evolution:On time delivery of deliverablesReview of Team timecards for appropriate effortsBe the voice of the Design team on the development of cross functional tools and efficienciesServing on Estimating and Design Group Leadership Team

Essential Functions:

Minimum qualifications:

MS in Civil or Geological Engineering with Geotechnical or Geostructural emphasis10 + years of experience in multiple aspects of geotechnical engineering design and constructionPE license requiredAuthorized to work in the United States without sponsorshipExperience leading teams and achieving performance metrics

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

In depth knowledge of the principles and practices of Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, and Geotechnical ConstructionDemonstrated ability to utilize judgement, data, and analytical tools to solve engineering problems in a fast paced, frontline construction-focused environmentDemonstrated ability to work with diverse teams to accomplish clear resultsDemonstrated Ability to manage risk and ambiguityDemonstrated understanding of construction means, methods, costs, and schedules to drive efficient and correct estimates

Preferred qualifications:

15+ years of experienceGE and/or SE certificationNumerical modeling experienceExperience leading interdisciplinary teams

Work Environment

Hybrid (3 days in the office required in Westminster, CO)

Travel: up to 25% 

 

Salary range: $154,000 - $170,000 per year
