About your team: 

You’ll be working centrally within our mission control room, aka Centrica’s group functions. From Finance and Data Science, to our Wellbeing and People teams - this is the engine of our energy system, where our various Centres of Excellence power up each of our brilliant businesses, ensuring they have all the support, technologies, and capabilities they need to get our customers to Net Zero by 2050.

Join Centrica's Product and Engineering Shared Services as a Principal Engineer. Lead the design, development, and implementation across our technology stacks. Drive architectural decisions, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure scalable solutions.

Location: Flexible working with occasional travel to Windsor

Key Responsibilities:

Define and drive the technical vision aligned with business objectives.

Promote best engineering practices and a collaborative approach.

Develop scalable, high-performance architecture.

Mentor engineers and foster technical excellence.

Work with cross-functional teams to deliver high standards.

Participate in coding, code review, and best practice implementation.

Stay updated with emerging technologies and drive their adoption.

Ensure system reliability, security, and efficiency.

Translate technical concepts into business value.

Required Qualifications:

Leadership and technical guidance in architecture standards.

Expertise in high-level designs and new service development.

Strong personal leadership and mentoring skills.

Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Proven track record in driving engineering culture change.

Data-driven approach with a focus on value delivery.

Hands-on software engineering background.

Ability to work in a matrix organisation and adapt to change.
