About the Role
Reporting to the Area Lead Engineering, we are seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to work for BHP's Copper and Coal Asset Projects (CCAP) Group in Technical Team. To be successful in this role you will be an effective technical leader and a collaborative communicator with the ability to manage multiple business priorities simultaneously.
Typical projects include
Tailings Dam raises or new above ground or Inpit facilities. Tailings Dam Closure Mine Pit expansions that require Creek Diversions/relocation and associated mine infrastructure relocation including roads, culvert crossings, earthworks platforms, Go-lines and pipelines. Geotechnical / Hydrogeological assessments and investigations that require scope development and technical support Earthworks pads and associated footings and foundations for pump stations, Substations and CCHP plant expansions
Location - Brisbane based with occasional travel to Bowen Basin and Hunter Valley sites.
The role description includes:
Provide subject matter expertise oversight and technical review for civil engineering components of BHP Capital Projects.
Provide input to project engineering strategy and scope to achieve required study and business outcomes.
Influence basis of design and engineering outcomes to drive solutions to the minimum technical solution.
Challenge customary engineering processes and standards to identify opportunities for improve project value and safety.
Proactively identify engineering risks and help to assign appropriate controls.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
Review engineering deliverables to:
Identify opportunities to improve project value including cost, NPV, and safety.
Ensure compliance with agree project and phase requirements.
Contribute to selection of Engineering Service Providers including bidder selection and tender evaluation.
Maintain knowledge of internal and external civil engineering standards, requirements
Improve the Engineering Team's awareness of civil engineering current best practice and innovation opportunities.
About You
Qualification & Experience
Bachelor of Engineering - Civil RPEQ - Civil (or eligible) Minimum 15 years experience Extensive civil engineering design experience with mine infrastructure projects including engineering support during construction. Experience with the following is desirable: Tailings storage facility design, construction, operation, and closure. Dam breaks, Failure Impact Assessment, Consequence Category Assessments FMEA and QRA’s for Tailings dams. Geotechnical investigation scoping, implementation, and analysis. Water storage dams and levees Creek diversion design and hydraulic analysis in accordance with ACARP and DNRME. This includes the assessment of flexible linings and revegetation techniques
