Principal Engineer II - Lab Architecture Services

As a Principal Engineer II on the Lab Architecture Services Team, you will be part of the organization that drives rapid development, integration, and validation of Spectrum products and services. Your lead role will involve providing proactive support for architecture and environment builds, managing support efforts, overseeing integration testing (as needed) and delivering engineering services for Charter’s engineering initiatives.

In addition to technical responsibilities, you will engage in aspects of project management, coordinating lab infrastructure buildouts, tracking project timelines, and ensuring that deliverables meet both technical and business requirements. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, manage multiple tasks, and help steer projects to successful completion while maintaining alignment with broader organizational goals.

As a Lab Architect, you will be expected to grasp how different systems and components interact, allowing you to effectively contribute to cross-functional discussions and problem-solving efforts. WHAT OUR PRINCIPAL ENGINEERS ENJOY MOST

Contribute to early-stage planning for new company initiatives to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and resource needs.Design, implement, monitor, enhance and troubleshoot systems, as needed, in assigned areas. Conduct technical reviews and gap analysis of end-to-end system architecture, tools, and hardware/firmware to align lab capabilities with production for high-priority projects.Analyze costs, identify reusable components, and manage lab environment enhancements. Open and track tickets to monitor progress, coordinating with lab teams to ensure timely updates.Create system and application-level designs that align lab environments with overall architectural solutions and ensure consistency with production environments.Oversee the build-out of lab infrastructure, assisting with installation and setup across multiple tenants and shared services teams.Design and implement automation solutions to streamline lab operations and increase efficiency for testing and deployment.Work closely with development, testing, and lab teams to ensure smooth communication and coordination across all phases of lab setup and testing.Provide ongoing support to Lab Engineers and Test teams, analyzing lab performance, identifying bottlenecks, and recommending optimizations.Advocate for best practices in lab design, implementation, and testing, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal quality metrics. 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM

Required Qualifications

Experience:10-15+ years of engineering work experience10-15+ years of project management work experienceEducation:Masters or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experienceTechnical Skills:Extensive understanding of software source control tools such as GitLab.Advanced knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocolsAdvanced knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI ModelAdvanced knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations.Advanced knowledge of network devices and basic network appliancesAdvanced knowledge of network designing software, such as VisioAdvanced knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topologyAbilities:Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quicklyAbility to use personal computer and software applications           Travel Ability:Office EnvironmentSchedule:Full time

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced Knowledge of company products and services to include Lines of Business, legacy company footprints, Customer segments (Resi, SMB, Enterprise, Spectrum Community Solutions)Subject Matter Expert in at least 1 line of business (Video, Voice, Data, Mobile, WiFi)Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)DEVOPS CertificationsIndustry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (AWS, Google Public Cloud, Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.)

The base pay for this position generally is between $124,000.00 and $220,000.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
