Job Title: Principal Hardware Designer

Job Description

Actalent is seeking a hardware designer experienced with optical transceiver development for an exciting opportunity with our client in Ottawa. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead design cycles on leading edge product technology in the field as part of a design engineering group providing end-to-end product development solutions, including optical transceivers, and optical sub-assemblies. The team handles projects from concept to volume manufacturing.

ResponsibilitiesLead hardware design of optical transceivers from concept to pre-production.Contribute to all phases of the product development cycle.Understand and document electrical and optical requirements.Interface with various engineering teams.Review high-speed interface simulations.Lead design reviews.Troubleshoot and improve yield.Resolve DFM issues and ensure compliance.Essential SkillsB.S. in Electrical Engineering; M.S. or Ph.D. is considered an asset.10+ years of hardware design experienceExperience being part of the development process with 400GB or 800GB optical transceiversWorking knowledge of optical transceiver design from conception to production.Understanding of system design.Excellent communication skills for engaging with customers.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in reviewing RF design and simulation from tools such as CST or HFSS.Familiarity with high-speed (RF) and optoelectronic devices: drivers, modulators, lasers, detectors, TIA, CDR/DSP, and equalization.Experience with optical transceiver test methodologies.Knowledge of various optical transceivers in CWDM and DWDM networks.Familiarity with industry standards including IEEE Ethernet standards, OIF standards, and various MSAs.Coherent design experience is a plus.Why ActalentWork with a dedicated career partner specialized in your skill setWe advocate on your behalf so you get what you want and need out of your jobGet performance feedback, career advice, and access to ongoing professional development toolsBuild your career and learn new skills through projects as diverse as your curiosityYou are eligible for benefits, paid time off, and competitive wages that are paid weeklyPay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $95.00
