Job Purpose
As a Principal Lithium Product Engineer, you will lead strategic initiatives to advance lithium-ion cell technology, driving innovation across research, development, and production processes. This role involves high-level technical leadership, mentoring, and the ability to influence the direction of the organization’s product strategy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Research & Development: Provide visionary leadership in the discovery and integration of next-generation materials, designs, and manufacturing processes for lithium-ion cells. Testing & Evaluation: Oversee the entire testing and validation process for lithium-ion cells, ensuring the highest standards of performance and safety. Collaboration: Collaborate with senior leadership, product development, and manufacturing teams to align technology roadmaps and product strategies with business goals. Documentation & Reporting: Direct the creation of in-depth technical reports, patents, and other high-level documentation that supports company IP and strategic direction. Quality Assurance: Lead the development of industry-leading quality assurance protocols to ensure all lithium-ion cells exceed regulatory and performance standards. Project Management: Manage large-scale, high-visibility projects, providing strategic oversight, budgeting, and resource management. Continuous Improvement: Drive the continuous improvement of engineering practices, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation across the organization.Position Location
The location for this position is still being finalized. It will be based in either Greenville, SC or Columbia, SC.
Travel ExpectationsThere will be 50% travel for the first year of employment and 25% travel after year one on an ongoing basis. You must be able to travel both domestically and internationally.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent); PhD preferred. 10+ years of experience in lithium-ion cell design, with a proven track record of leading advanced R&D initiatives. Deep expertise in electro-chemical systems, cell architecture, and manufacturing technologies. Extensive experience in leadership roles, with the ability to influence and drive large-scale technical initiatives. Knowledge of regulatory compliance and industry standards (UN/DOT, IEC, ISO).
