Principal Machinist (Machine Shop Lead 1st & 2nd shift)

Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position assists the production supervisor in the administration and coordination of effective, efficient, and high-quality production related activities.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrate and promote the Nordson safety culture of “Journey to Zero” and that all accidents are preventable.Participate in safety committee, VDM and continuous improvement meetings.Assist assigned Shift Supervisor in determining daily production needs and assign to Production Associates accordingly.Determine proper priorities and coordinate movement of component parts appropriately.Lead Production Associates on team in working safely and efficiently to meet all production work requirements assigned by following operating procedures and work instructions.Train, instruct, and supervise employees using established production methods to produce a quality product in a safe and timely manner to meet production demandsTrack and communicate daily goals and KPI’s to team in daily gemba.Operate necessary equipment to meet required Production schedules.Work with other production areas, as necessary, to resolve quality problems and inventory movements.May perform equipment set-up, calibration, and routine preventative maintenance tasks.Coordinate shipments with Material Planners for Outside Vendor Services.Responsible for parts presentation for raw material in machine shop.Contribute to success of team by submitting improvement ideas, identifying potential problems, providing feedback on new methods or method changes and by displaying a positive, cooperative attitude in working with orders.Willing to cross train in other areas and perform in those areas as needed.Monitoring Quality (COPQ – Cost of Poor Quality).Facilitate communication between employees and technical team (including Engineering, Quality and Planners) to ensure issues impacting output and efficiency are addressed promptly.Other related duties depending on business needs.

Education and Experience Requirements

Some mechanical capability & computer skills required. SAP experience preferred.Detail-oriented, self-starter with a passion to deliver excellence is essentialTeam player with a positive attitude and a willingness to learnAbility to read, write and communicate in English as it relates to this position and safety requiredHigh school diploma or GED4 or more years of experience with operating production/machining equipment.2 or more years of set-up experience.Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language.Basic computer navigation skills.CNC lathe and milling experience

Preferred Skills and Abilities

Multi axis CNC lathe experience highly preferred.Completed trade school or an apprenticeship in machiningCNC lathe and milling experienceWelding experienceAbility to make & repair tools.Multi axis CNC lathe experience highly preferred.Completed trade school or an apprenticeship in machiningAbility to make & repair tools.
