Principal Manufacturing Engineer for Strategic Systems

Job Description Summary:

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring a timely and cost-effective transition from research and development through full-rate production. As a member of a multidisciplinary team responsible for defining and executing the LE2 Production program, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for: The development and implementation of long-term production planning, supply chain identification and evaluation, technology transfers to vendors, risk assessments, and ramp-up to full-rate production.

Roles and Responsibilities
• Critical contributor for the planning and execution of the production program, including manufacturing and supply chain planning and strategy for aerospace programs
• Early engagement with product development teams and qualified suppliers to ensure manufacturability of designs
• Developing detailed production plans with clear timelines and milestones that integrate with the overall program plan and schedule
• Identification and on-site evaluation of critical suppliers
• Driving multiple transition to production efforts at disparate locations
• Development of consistent production performance metrics for internal and external operations
• Monitoring and managing risks and opportunities within area of responsibility
• Fostering collaboration and teamwork among program stakeholders
• Continuously evaluating and improving program processes and outcomes within area of responsibility
• Communication of complex technical topics to the customer and Draper leadership
• Supporting weekly and monthly program reviews to status execution within program area
• Compiling comprehensive technical data packages and generating production RFPs for potential suppliers

Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities
• Use Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs to create product concepts.
• Gather materials or resources needed to design the product.
• Test the product for usability and safety.
• Oversee the manufacturing and production process to set standards.
• Independently drive solutions to complex problems - develop requirements, propose ways forward when customer requirements are unclear or incomplete, and adapt appropriately to changes in requirements.
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Product Engineering.
• Provide insight and suggest design or process modifications based on quantitative data or results.
• Identify program/system-level technical risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies.
• Develop, document, and teach best practices to less experienced engineers; Demonstrate strong organization, planning, and time management skills to achieve program goals.

• Collaborate and communicate effectively and openly with multi-disciplinary program team members, program leadership, and non-technical personnel.
• Be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to balance multiple competing tasks and demands.

Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field.

Experience
10-15 years experience in Product Engineering or related.

Additional Job Description:

Experience / working knowledge of handling Classified and Controlled Unclassified Information (Contract Security Requirements, DoD form 254).

Familiarity with MRL / TRL methodology and application.

Other Requirements

Position is expected to necessitate travel at least 1 week/month
