Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: 

Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science with 5+ years’ experience. Broad understanding of metallurgy and advanced failure analysis techniques Demonstrated expertise relating to a broad range of metallic material including steels, stainless steels, titanium alloys, aluminum alloys and nickel-based alloys.  Familiarity with advanced analytical techniques is essential. Hands on experience with SEM/EDS EBSD microscopy and metallography are essential. Familiarity with surface engineering techniques such as cleaning, plating, and finishing. Experience with problem solving and failure analysis in areas such as stress corrosion cracking, fatigue and other fracture mechanisms, contamination problems, wear failures, adhesion and bonding problems, corrosion/oxidation, heat treatments, and plating issues. This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card Holder), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with quality control testing in a regulatory environment.  Litigation consulting experience  Electrochemical corrosion testing experience.

Essential Functions:

Leads metallurgical analysis, material characterization and testing and qualification of new products and implementation of new processes that minimize waste and increase the quality of finished products.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Solves problem and conducts failure analysis in areas such as stress corrosion cracking, fatigue and other cracking mechanisms, contamination problems, wear failures, adhesion and bonding problems, corrosion/oxidation, improper heat treatments, and plating issues.  Conduct testing and material characterization to provide expert, timely materials solutions to internal and external customers. Provide technical marketing support to the organization through customer visits and targeted technical support. Communicate results to management, colleagues, and customers in the form of written reports and oral presentations. Propose, define and execute project concepts for new products, cost savings, quality improvement, and process innovation.  Maintain industry expertise and current knowledge of developments in Ni-base superalloy, specialty steel, titanium, and aluminum alloys by attending meetings and conferences conducted by trade associations, by reviewing trade literature and by periodic visits to customer or supplier base. Enthusiastically tackle challenges and achieve results while dealing with ambiguity and change that accompanies working in a research environment. Work with Quality Engineers and customers to support product quality troubleshooting and quality improvement opportunities.
