Principal Network and Cloud Architect

Nokia Bell Labs NAR (Network Architecture Research) Lab drives innovations across multiple network layers and across all network segments, including access, metro, transport, and data centers. The research is expected to identify new opportunities for monetization, sustainability, security, performance improvement, and our customers’ total-cost-of-ownership optimization. Team Culture: You will join a team of experts with in-depth knowledge in transport, fixed, and mobile networks to define the next generation end-to-end network architecture. Our team is a cross-functional team and collaborates closely with other labs across Bell Labs as well as all business groups. 

 

You have: 

PhD degree or a MSc degree in a relevant engineering field such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from a leading college/university. Visionary thinking and interest in research beyond current product constraints A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience Expert domain knowledge in following areas IP and datacenter networks including MPLS, routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, BGP, etc.), signaling protocols (RSVP, LDP, QoS, IP VPN, VLAN, VLL/VPLS, etc.), automation related technologies (Netconf, Yang, gRPC, gNMI, REST, etc.) and/or in-depth cross-domain networking knowledge. Cloud and/or datacenter solutions in various computing environments, including requirement analysis, solution architecture, and solution design.

Personal Attributes:  

Ability to work autonomously on complex research issues and interact with other researchers to drive an effective transfer of concepts and solutions to business groups including the ability to visualize and present complex architectures to senior management and customers. Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills, boundaryless and agile collaboration mindset Very strong analytical skills and eager to find innovative/disruptive solutions to problems. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

It would be nice if you also had:

Infrastructure architecture experience that are in one or multiple areas: Multi-Cloud (AWS, Azure), Network, Security, Automation, Orchestration, Edge, CI/CD solutions, MLOps etc. Knowledge of RDMA  technologies and networking,  SmartNIC/DPU offloading,  experience with SONIC,  familiarity with recent industry initiatives such as CXL,  and  the Ultra-Ethernet Consortium  activities toward next-generation Ethernet tailored to AI workloads and GPU interconnect. Google Cloud Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or Azure Solutions Architect certification.

As part of our team, you will:

Develop and define novel network architecture solutions through in-depth knowledge of transport and datacenter networking as well as their cross-domain enhancements and impact. Pro-actively identify emerging trends, translate these into research projects and lead disruptive research topics to drive network architecture innovation. Lead effective transfers to business groups and contribute to strategy definitions through strong capabilities for synthesis and creating abstract high-level architectural concepts from details while also identifying and prioritizing essential architectural details that need to be addressed. Protect the generated intellectual property with patents, contribute to the implementation of patents in standards, review inventions from others as well as disseminate the key disruptions to internal and external audiences. Define frameworks for the advancement of evaluation methodologies and network models.
