Principal Optical/RF Simulation Engineer

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Lead the optical and RF simulation of PAM4 optical transceivers for datacenter, AI/ML, HPC applications Perform E2E (end-to-end) link simulation of optical transceiver designs involving various high-speed SerDes, DSP block, PCB design, optical transmitter/receiver, optical fiber characteristics Define and optimize the electrical/optical architecture, interface, and performance of optical transceivers meeting customers’ requirements

Education & Experience

B.S. with 9 years of related experience, or M.S. with 7 years, or Ph.D. with 4 years  Intensive high-speed RF/optical simulation and analysis experience Strong knowledge and expertise in high-speed RF design, photonics, and optoelectronics Expertise on high-speed optoelectronic and RF components – designs, specifications, characterization, performance, and qualification Solid foundation of understanding for high-speed optical transceivers: High-speed signal/power integrity (SI/PI) Optomechanical design 

Skills

Excellent communication and presentation skills Strong analytical problem-solving skills for product design and debug Hands-on technical background in PAM4 optical transceiver designs – EML, Silicon Photonics, DSP, driver, TIA, PCB/PCBA, pluggable and co-packaged optics, electrical and optical packaging Background on high-density multiple-layer PCB designs

Working Conditions

  May require occasional off-site meetings or travel Regular use of a computer and other office equipment is necessary Interaction with team members and external contacts is a regular part of the job  

Physical Requirements

Sitting for extended periods while working on a computer or conducting meetings. Use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents. Occasional lifting of objects or materials up to 20 pounds for administrative tasks. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Mobility within the office environment to attend meetings or interact with colleagues.

Safety Requirements

All employees are required to attend scheduled training, follow the site EHS procedures and Corporate EHS standards.  This includes the use of proper protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job responsibilities.

Managers will ensure that all safety and environmental procedures are followed consistently.  They will ensure that risk assessments are performed, proper training, work instructions, required PPE is available, and will monitor compliance.
