About the Role:
We're looking for an accomplished Principal Product Designer to lead the charge in creating exceptional user experiences for clinical and commercial applications in the Life Sciences & Biotech industries. This role is for someone who excels at the intersection of strategic vision, design excellence, and collaboration. As critical expert, you will help shape Medidata's design strategy, influence the product roadmap, and mentor design talent across the organization. This is a role requiring principal-level expertise in design.
Reporting to Senior Vice President, Product Design, you will guide complex, platform spanning programs and promote our design standards across the entire team. You will lead teams, mentor designers, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and progress while advocating for a human-centered approach to design. As a Principal Designer, you'll align teams around shared goals, and create solutions that redefine enterprise SaaS offerings for the life sciences.
Responsibilities:
Shape and influence product strategies, aligning design efforts with organizational goals and priorities. Identify opportunities for innovation in ambiguous or novel spaces and frame design problems for maximum impact. Guide designers across multiple levels, promoting excellence, growth, and inclusion. Set the bar for design quality and in decision-making. Create modular, scalable design systems, ensuring seamless integration across platforms and products. Produce high-fidelity designs, interactive prototypes, and production-ready assets that set new standards for enterprise applications. Embed research and discovery practices into the product lifecycle, using data and insights to inform design decisions. Partner with researchers, data scientists, and product managers to provide an understanding of user needs. Define and communicate a compelling vision for Medidata's user experiences. Use storytelling and persuasion to align stakeholders, from team members to executive leadership. Lead workshops, facilitate understanding across teams, and ensure customer-centricity in decision-making processes. Be a bridge between disciplines, promoting a shared understanding of goals and constraints. Advocate for design excellence. Stay current with industry trends, latest technologies, and best practices to inspire creativity and maintain Medidata's competitive edge.Qualifications:
Has delivered solutions for complex systems in enterprise SaaS. Demonstrated product strategy, connect design work to outcomes, and envision future-forward solutions that achieve organizational growth. Employ continuous discovery habits and methodologies and the ability to integrate research, data, and analytics into the design process. Advanced skills in public speaking, storytelling, and facilitation to align team members, build trust, and inspire others. 5+ years of experience coaching designers, promoting growth, and encouraging an inclusive, collaborative design culture. Adept in designing for the latest technologies in Generative AI, machine learning, or similar innovations.Education & Experience:
A minimum of 8–10 years of related experience in UX/UI design, with a Bachelor's degree; or 6–8 years and a Master's degree.If you have demonstrated experience creating transformative design solutions, we want to hear from you!
As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the NYC Metro Area is $184,500-246,000
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the California Bay Area is $194,250-259,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the Boston Metro Area is $181,500-242,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in Texas or Ohio is $162,000-216,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in all other locations within the United States is $165,000-220,000.
Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a commission on the terms of applicable plan documents, and many of Medidata's non-sales positions are eligible for annual bonuses.
