The Opportunity

Nutanix Licensing is used by all our products and is used by customers, partners and employees alike. As we move to subscriptions, offering flexible license models has become a critical success factor to address our customers’ desire to move Nutanix infrastructure across a hybrid multi-cloud environment. We aim to make licensing a delightful experience for our customers as they move our products or applications from cloud to cloud.We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to drive product strategy/roadmap, feature requirements and prioritization for Nutanix Licensing. You will be the product owner helping to identify requirements and use-cases, research customer needs, and drive a compelling roadmap. This position will be based at Nutanix HQ in San Jose, C

You will report to the Director, Product Manager, who is known for promoting a supportive leadership style that encourages team members to think independently and take ownership of their projects. The manager believes in empowering employees through open communication and values input from all team members. This role offers flexibility, with a hybrid work setup where the new hire may be required to come into the office 3-4 days per week, allowing for effective collaboration and team interaction while also respecting individual work preferences.

There are no specific travel requirements associated with this role, allowing the new hire to focus on their primary responsibilities without the need for frequent travel. The emphasis will be on building strong relationships with stakeholders and managing projects independently within the team's collaborative framework.

 

Your Role

Proactively create and maintain product vision, strategy and roadmap for Nutanix licensing portal and run time that aligns company vision and strategy to mid/long term roadmap planning activities.Evangelize and influence licensing strategy and roadmap to multiple stakeholders such as product managers, engineering, pricing team and revenue operations.Define user stories and workflows for all our licensing offerings. This includes sharing the end state vision with User Experience design team and reviewing UX design options with stakeholders.Work with the engineering team to proactively test, validate and implement the features of licensing portal and the licensing runtime.Be Nutanix’s spokesperson on our licensing direction and explain how our licensing works to both customers and the field

What You Will Bring

At least 8 years of product management experience and 12+ years of IT industry experienceAt least 5 years’ experience as licensing PM in a large enterprise or a fast-growing midsized enterprise that sells both on-prem and cloud software. We expect the candidate to be well respected internally and within the licensing community.Experience of working with pricing and packaging PMs and should have firsthand experience of independently onboarding new products, product tiers and bundles.End-to-end knowledge from opportunity creation to order fulfillment, should be able to explain how quotes result in license creation/updates.Fluent with various types of opportunities such as partial upgrades, midterm upgrades, capacity expansions, renewals, migrations, RMA etc. Candidate should be able to explain licensing’s role in each type of opportunity.Experience of leading or playing a key role in transforming the company from traditional license models to pay-as-you-go billing and prepaid subscription models.Proven experience of making data driven decisions when multiple options are proposed by the engineering team or by the stakeholders.Led cross-functional projects at least for 3 years serving multiple stakeholders with diverse set of prioritiesCustomer facing and revenue generating product management experience is a plus.Required SkillsBS or MS degree in engineering with at least two years of majoring in computer science. This is non-negotiable.Strong SQL knowledge (preferably Postgres). This is non-negotiable.Strong critical thinking and critical writing skillsMockups and UX designing skills such as FigmaRecent coding skills (less than one year) in at least one of the following languages: Java, Python, C++, JavaScript/NodeJS. Coding skills should be good enough to be able to independently write snippets of code. She/he should be proficient enough to quickly test some APIs or to participate in hackathons.Agile (Scrum) software development skillsPreferred SkillsMBA preferredGen AI skills with prompt engineering experience in licensing, subscription and asset management domainsPragmatic marketing or other PM certificationsAgile software development certifications such as certified scrum masterKnowledge of working with Salesforce is a plusEnablement video creation and editing skills for non-technical audience.

Work Arrangement

This role is Hybrid, offering the opportunity to collaborate face-to-face with team members in a dynamic and engaging work environment. Being physically present allows for seamless teamwork and direct access to resources that support your success. Additional team-specific guidance and norms will be provided by your manager.

 

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $ 182,400 and USD $ 364,800 per year.

However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
