Job Summary: The Principal Product Manager - C&I Energy Storage is the platform owner of the C&I Energy Storage product category and is responsible for developing and maintaining the product category strategy that enables the division to grow sales, gain market share and improve profitability.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing or related field
8+ years of progressive in engineering, business or marketing
4+ years management experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Product design experience in electrical systems integration and manufacturing support (design for manufacturing)
Background with battery energy storage systems, microgrids, distributed energy resources, power conversion systems, low or medium voltage electrical distribution
Hands on involvement with troubleshooting, testing, and validating AC/DC electrical systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.)
Master’s Degree in a related field
Prior experience managing hardware and software offerings
Experience with P&L management
Experience working in a technically-driven environment in the manufacturing sector
Experience in one or more of the following Energy Storage System technologies such as batteries, battery management systems, power conversion systems such as inverters or converters, PV, fire suppression systems, thermal management systems and firmware
Familiarity with regulatory compliance such as: UL 1741, UL 9540, UL 9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 68, NFPA 69, NFPA 70, DER interconnect standards, and generally with UL, NFPA, CSA, FCC, and IEC standards governing energy storage systems
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Global platform owner of the C&I Energy Storage product category
Oversee the annual and long-term strategic plans for the category by setting objectives, leveraging consumer insights, and allocating resources across the product portfolio
Define product requirements and continue to refine (for next gen products) based on customer feedback, market developments, and upcoming regulations/incentives. Make sure Generac is building the right products and solutions, and ensure product is positioned to win with a competitive price, footprint, and design.
Uncover markets where Generac can uniquely win, and craft BESS (and multi-asset site) solutions to target these markets.
Establish the product strategy and obtain senior management approval for each product line. The product strategy becomes the guidelines for what products and positioning are acceptable for sales to sell into each our Generac’s sales channel
Manage overall product lifecycle, including phase in/out timing and product/platform rationalization decisions
Owner of multi-year strategic plan and execution
Develop a multi-year plan driving revenue and market share targets for product lines and categories. Includes establishment of cost targets to support pricing and margin needs
Technical depth and communications skills needed to gather use cases, voice of customer and persona’s that will translate into requirements the development team will execute against
Comprehension of market data and leading technical indicators to drive decisions or strategic proposals preparing the organization for technology leadership
Develop business cases for new product development programs
Maintains the competitive product database and uses this as an input to establish multi-year product development roadmaps
Establish strategy, vision, goals, and positioning for each product category to achieve annually including financial performance targets
Create product and programs to increase our value to end users
Work closely with sales to insure new product launches are successful and achieve the established business case objectives
Monitor industry trends that will impact product requirements; ensure product is designed to meet current & future code & safety requirements
Interfacing with end users and participating in industry events in order to understand and develop opportunities for innovative solutions
Research customer product requirements, competitive offerings, and product gaps to determine market needs for new products
Define product requirements and translate customer needs into engineering specifications
Act as a resource to mentor and teach less experienced engineers / team members
