The Principal Scientist, Cytometry will serve as a scientific and technical expert focused on supporting the identification and validation of new therapeutic concepts (NTCs). Primary responsibilities for this role include the management of the Discovery Research Cytometry and Imaging Core Facility and several full-time research scientists. This individual will oversee the daily operation and maintenance of state-of-the-art spectral cytometry and cell imaging instruments and will provide expert technical support, training, and guidance to researchers across Discovery Research. The successful candidate will play a critical role in data generation for drug discovery projects, developing novel strategies/assays/systems and ensuring the core facility remains at the forefront of innovation.
The Principal Scientist, Cytometry will actively support the global research community and innovation unit (IU).
**Duties & Responsibilities**
+ Manages Core Facility: Oversees daily operations of the core according to portfolio priorities, including staff, scheduling, training, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
+ Technical Expert: Provides hands on expertise for instrumentation, assay development and data analysis, supporting discovery research teams in the design and execution of experiments.
+ Scientific Expertise: Utilizes integrated approaches to identify, nominate and support the validation of NTCs; including project leadership.
+ Assay Development: Collaborates with internal research teams to design and develop complex multi-parameter assays, ensuring robustness, reproducibility, and alignment with project goals.
+ Collaborate & Consult: As a technical and scientific subject matter expert (SME), acts as a consultant for cytometry/imaging across discovery research therapeutic areas (TAs) in RDG, in the global research community and across the IU. Responsible for guild selection and design of methods, protocol optimization and reagent selection.
+ Training and Mentorship: Trains and mentors members of the research/IU community in techniques, instrument use, data interpretation; fostering collaboration and innovation.
+ Innovation & Optimization: In addition to remaining current with evolving cytometry and imaging advances and their application to drug discovery, proactively looks for ways to improve workflows, integrate new technology and improve data quality.
+ Resource Management: Manages the core within budget for core equipment acquisition, maintenance/service contracts, consumables, and staff resources/development ensuring cost-effective operations.
**Requirements**
+ PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with minimum six (6) years demonstrated experimental expertise in vitro and in vivo with a focus in cytometry, cell analysis and/or imaging.
+ In depth knowledge of cytometry instrumentation, including CyTOF or similar as well as cell imaging platforms with relevant software for data analysis/presentation.
+ Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative cytometry and imaging assays and methods to support drug discovery programs, including biomarker assessment.
+ Proven experience managing a core facility or similar including staff supervision, mentoring and development, resource/capacity management and budget oversight.
+ Working knowledge of drug discovery, including multi-omics approaches.
+ Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively and to communication complex scientific concepts with cross-disciplinary and cross-site (global) teams, including to non-experts.
+ Established scientific expertise through including peer-reviewed publications.
Preferred qualifications:
+ Experience with high-throughput approaches and automation in cytometry.
+ Experience with single cell sequencing and multi-omics applications.
+ Familiarity with metabolomics and fluxomic is a plus.
**Eligibility Requirements** :
+ Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
+ Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
+ Must be 18 years of age or older.
**Compensation**
This position offers a base salary typically between $140,000. and $222,000. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus and or other compensation elements.
