We are looking for an Electro-mechanical Components Engineer to support our engineering activities for our Deployables operating unit. The Electro-mechanical Components Engineer will support the design and fabrication of solar arrays and deployable mechanical systems on a large variety of commercial and military programs through deriving requirements for release devices, motors, actuators, telemeters, and electrical interconnect hardware. This position may be located in either the Goleta or Oxnard, CA site, with the expectation of travel between the two sites as needed.

This position may be filled as either a Principal Electro-Mechanical Engineer (level 3) or a Senior Principal Electro-Mechanical Engineer (level 4).

Roles and Responsibilities:

Derive requirements for release devices, motors, actuators, telemeters, and electrical interconnect hardware

Support the design and fabrication of solar arrays and deployable mechanical systems on a large variety of commercial and military programs

Provide electro-mechanical component technical guidance and direction to engineering team in the design, test, production, and maintenance phases of a project

Tasks to include recommending and supporting the selection, qualification, testing, and failure analysis of components for military, science, and commercial space subsystems

Deriving requirements for release devices, motors, actuators, telemeters, and electrical interconnect hardware

Communicate available component capabilities & limitations to internal and external customers to arrive at best solutions

Generate drawings & documents including source control drawings

Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing

Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electro-mechanical systems

Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into component systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints

Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware specifications

Recommend and support the selection, qualification, testing, and failure analysis of components for military, science, and commercial space subsystems

Use independent, advanced knowledge and ideas to guide the development and implementation of technical solutions to highly complex problems

Participate in anomaly resolution by supporting Failure Review Boards (FRB) and providing non-conformance and failure analysis assessments

Review and approve analysis and engineering drawings

Interact with internal and external customers

Develop and present materials for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers

Collaborate with other disciplines including design, manufacturing, quality, and procurement

Basic Qualifications for a Principal (level 3):

Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years’ relevant experience; OR 3 years’ relevant experience with a Masters' degree in a STEM discipline

Demonstrated ability to support electro-mechanical engineering activities in the design, test, production, and maintenance phases of a project

Ability to travel between the Oxnard and Goleta, CA sites, and travel to support customers as needed

US Citizenship required

Basic Requirements for a Senior Principal (level 4):

Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 9 years’ relevant experience; OR 7 years’ relevant experience with a Masters' degree in a STEM discipline; OR 4 years’ relevant experience with a PhD

Experience in providing technical guidance and direction to support electro-mechanical engineering activities in the design, test, production, and maintenance phases of a project

Ability to travel between the Oxnard and Goleta, CA sites, and travel to support customers as needed

US Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:

MS degree in Aerospace, Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

Understanding of mechanics including loads and stress calculations, stiffness, strength

Understanding of electricity and magnetism, including circuits, Ohms Law, power, heat generation/dissipation, inductance, magnetic permeability, insulation, capacitance, ESD & mitigation

Ability to provide technical communication and coordination with internal and external customers

Salary Range: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00Salary Range 2: $137,400.00 - $206,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
