You’ll work in a R&D environment alongside a broad array of scientists and engineers to make these processing solutions a reality and deliver remarkable new advantages to the warfighter. We are seeking a theoretical physicist with a robust scientific background that has an interest in developing and implementing simulation tools for superconducting qubits and superconducting electronics. The ideal candidate has experience working on simulations used to design new experiments and understand test results. This position will involve understanding and improving existing simulation tools as well as developing new ones. **This position requires work on site located at our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) in Linthicum, Maryland or Annapolis Junction, MD.** **Your responsibilities:** + Develop and implement simulation models for novel experiments on superconducting devices. + Debug existing simulation tools and support implementation of new capabilities. + Support the current and future development of simulation tools within function, cost and schedule constraints. + Use simulation tools to understand test results. + Analyze simulation results on superconducting qubits. + Mentor less experienced staff to help them learn software development skills. **What you need to be successful in the role:** + Interest/excitement in research areas involving qubits and superconducting electronics. + Tenacity when diving into problems to follow them through and find the optimal solution. + Presentation and communication skills + Ability to collaborate in a small group setting (4-7 people) as well as work independently. **This position can be filled at the Principal level OR Sr. Principal level. Qualifications for both are listed below:** **Basic Qualifications for Principal Quantum Simulation Developer:** + PhD in theoretical physics, electrical engineering, or a STEM related field with 1 year of relevant technical experience; Master's Degree in STEM related field and 3 years of relevant technical experience; Bachelor's Degree in STEM related field with 5 plus years of relevant technical experience. + Experience with physics based simulations. + Experience developing models to understand experimental results. + Experience in a software development environment + Familiarity with software best practices and development lifecycles + Proficiency writing code in Python. + US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS/SCI) clearance with polygraph per business requirements. **Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Quantum Simulation Developer:** + PhD in theoretical physics, electrical engineering, or a STEM related field and 4 plus years of technical experience; master's degree in STEM related field and 6 years of relevant technical experience; Bachelor's degree in STEM related field and 8 plus years of technical experience. + Experience mentoring teams and providing leadership in a scientific setting. + Proficiency writing code in Python. + US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS/SCI) with polygraph clearance per business requirements. **Preferred Qualifications for both Principal AND Sr. Principal Quantum Simulation Developer:** + PhD in theoretical physics, electrical engineering, or related field. + Leadership experience working on a scientific research team. + Experience with simulating qubits, quantum information, or superconducting electronics. + Experience writing in a version-controlled, OOP-based codebase in Python + Experience with code design and Architecture + Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph **Salary Range:** $127,400 - $191,200 **Salary Range 2:** $158,600 - $238,000 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
