The Launch and Missile Defense Systems (LMDS) division within Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a P **rincipal/Sr. Principal Research and Development Engineer.** We are excited for you to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. Boulder is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and only 25 miles from downtown Denver. **Position Overview:** As a Research and Development Engineer within Advanced Programs, your experience with algorithm development and analysis will assist with the growth of complex algorithm solutions. You will be working within a fast-paced and exciting research and development environment that utilizes your familiarity with modern software techniques. You are expected to communicate technical information effectively and clearly, present technical approaches and findings, and report status to colleagues including customers and program management. Our employees are not only part of history, but they are also making history. **Essential Functions:** + Software development using Agile Methodology. + Tracking and state estimation development using modern C++. + Evaluate current technology against industry research and related approaches for potential application/integration to core software baseline + Work in cross-discipline teams and communicate clearly across various levels of engineers. + Technical documentation as required. **This position may be filled at either a Principal or a Sr. Principal Level based on the qualifications listed below.** **Basic Qualifications:** + **Principal Level:** Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of experience, or a PhD and 0 years of experience. + **Sr. Principal Level:** Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of experience, or a PhD and 4 years of experience. + Experience developing in Linux environments. + Experience with building custom data analysis and visualization tools. + Experience with algorithm design and data analysis + Experience with numerical computing (numerical optimization and statistical modeling) + Ability to bridge between theoretical concepts and practical implementation, performing associated trade analyses. + Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs. + Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance and the time of applicant, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) security clearance. **Preferred Qualifications:** + Familiarity with revision control, documentation, planning, and review systems like Git. + Experience with Python and/or MATLAB. + Experience with containers (Kubernetes and/or Docker). + Familiarity working with Atlassian ecosystem tools. + Experience developing and testing across multiple development environments. + Current active in-scope Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) security clearance. **What We Can Offer You:** Northrop Grumman provides a comprehensive benefits package and a work environment that encourages your growth and supports the mutual success of our people and our company. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
