What You’ll get to Do:
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking a System Safety Engineer with experience in Safety Engineering processes and standards to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Woodland Hills, CA.
The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's System Safety team within Specialty Engineering. Activities include system safety analysis of avionics and navigation systems. They will work with other engineering disciplines such as Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, etc. to evaluate different programs Safety Engineering needs. This includes performing safety analyses on new programs as well as revisiting existing programs’ safety analyses that are going through obsolescence to evaluate the impact of the replacement components.
The ideal candidate will have experience with MIL-STD-882E and familiarity with Military and their equivalent industry standards such as: MIL-STD-1629, DO-178B/C, DO-254, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, etc.
A fundamental knowledge of Reliability Engineering principles and System Safety Program conduct in accordance with MIL-HDBK-217 and MIL-STD-882 is preferred. Fundamental knowledge of principles of reliability and safety engineering including the capability to perform: Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Reliability Predictions, Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Safety Analysis Report (SAR) and fundamental knowledge of statistics are preferred.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Systems Safety Engineer:
BS in Engineering in a STEM discipline or relevant degree with 5 years of System Safety Engineering experience or a MS in Engineering in a STEM discipline or relevant degree with 3 years of experience in Systems and/or Software Safety Engineering or a PhD with 1 year of experienceDemonstrated ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures in order to mitigate or eliminate hazardsDemonstrated ability to apply system safety engineering principles in accordance with MIL-STD-882E or analyses such as PHAs, FHAs, SHAs/SSHAs, Bent Pin Analyses, Fault Tree Analyses, and Software System Safety AnalysesDemonstrated ability to identify system safety issues, propose solutions, and ensure appropriate action is taken to mitigate safety issuesDemonstrated ability to generate/review Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) or FMEA experience.Demonstrated ability to develop, review, update, and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirementsKnowledge of engineering drawings and ability to read schematics and parts lists.Ability to work independentlyDemonstrated excellent presentation skillsAble to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and customersUS CitizenshipAbility to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret ClearanceBasic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Systems Safety Engineer:

Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
