The Strategic Non-Kinetic Effects (SNKE) Mission Center at MITRE is a new and emerging organization within MITRE focused on developing cutting-edge capabilities to gain and maintain strategic advantage. Roles & Responsibilities:
The Strategic Economic Solutions Lead will be a key integrator within the Strategic Economics Department of the Strategic Non-Kinetic Effects Mission Center, leveraging deep private equity (PE), capital markets, and/or venture capital (VC) expertise to support the building and strengthening of U.S. capabilities to influence the economic domain. An expert is needed who can leverage a breadth of private sector experience to advise and contribute to strategy development and implementation to protect the U.S. economy. This role requires a unique understanding of the PE/VC landscape and the ability to assess the effects of disruptive activities and the second and third order effects of countermeasures. The work requires operating at senior-levels of government, including routine coordination and collaboration with the senior national security leaders and departments and agencies. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and results-oriented, with a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and a passion for contributing to national security by fostering innovation and technological advancement.
The responsibilities of this role include:
Assist with the development and implementation of strategic, operational, and tactical planning on a wide range of topics relevant to strategic economic effects, including financial vulnerabilities, supply chain resilience, economic statecraft, and competitive economic advantage.Leverage an understanding of the PE/VC landscape to identify emerging technologies, assess market trends, and evaluate potential investment opportunities relevant to strategic economic objectives.Bridge the gap between the PE/VC companies and DoD and IC organizations, facilitating collaboration and fostering public-private partnerships.Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of researchers, analysts, and project managers across MITRE and with external partners.Support the development of strategic recommendations and policy options for government sponsors and DoD stakeholders, translating complex technical analysis into actionable policy recommendations.Prepare and deliver briefings and reports on complex strategic economics and finance-related topics to a variety of audiences, including senior government officials and technical experts.Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Demonstrated understanding of the PE/VC landscape, including investment strategies, due diligence processes, and portfolio management.Expertise in capital market dynamics, financial instruments, investment banking, and securities analysis. Understanding of how capital flows influence economic activity and technological development.Experience working with or analyzing the defense industrial base, including its supply chains, technology development, and acquisition processes. Knowledge of key players, challenges, and opportunities within the defense sector.Experience working with or supporting government organizations including the DoD, IC, and/or interagency.Deep understanding of technology trends, emerging technologies, and innovation ecosystems. Ability to assess the potential of new technologies for defense and national security applications.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex technical information and draw actionable conclusions.Experience bridging and enabling collaboration between the public and private sectors.Knowledge of U.S. government policies related to the use of authorities to effect economic outcomes.Active TS/SCIThis position requires a minimum of 4 days a week on-site.Preferred Qualifications:
