Principal Structural Engineer

The Principal Engineer is the subject matter expert (SME) in the assigned program, product line, or technology segment. The individual serves as the technical linkage between internal and external clients, operating alongside business development and project management internal partners. This person provides leadership/mentorship to cross-functional teams and less experienced engineers/technicians.  This person effectively sets standards, best practices, and facilitates lessons learned with the engineering teams.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant work experience per hiring manager discretion.  Masters and/or additional technical certifications a plus.

Experience: 10 - 15 years’ experience.

Travel: 10-15%

Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday- Friday. However, work may be performed at any time on any day of the week to meet business needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads technical scope of complex projects involving a team of technical staff.

Effectively communicates and engages with senior management levels of both internal and external clients.

Key client families include our Geographies, Large Strategic, Solutions, Excellerate and EPC Renewables.

Engages and works well with project management, business development, construction, marketing, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, sourcing, product development, and external team members.

Provides subject matter expert level analysis for application of FTI products, solutions, and/or services in the assigned focus area. Responsible for project development and design for various projects.

Interprets and applies relevant and agency NEC, NFPA and OSHA requirements pertaining to safe work practices.

Provides engineering guidance and critique to ensure proper risk assessment, communication, and traceability to design outputs.

Establishes engineering standard drawing and assembly specification documents for all phases of preconstruction and preproduction (conceptual through issue for construction).

Acts as a technical liaison for all preconstruction and preproduction activities: engineering, VDC and estimating.

Assists in development of final project proposals, scope definition, and pricing of engineering scope.

Manages project quality and incorporates technical lessons learned.

Troubleshoots technical issues during project execution using prior experience with root cause analysis.

Assists in training and coaching of cross-functional personnel.

Maintains FTI’s competitive position and profitability by helping to create a strategic vision for the assigned focus area.

Focuses on emerging technology, supplier integration, and resources to bring innovative solutions to market through projects & programs, resulting in accelerated revenue.

Collaborates with regional business partners to identify incremental target prospects and research needed, as well as key outreach strategies and tactics to secure new account meetings while nurturing existing relationships with clients.

Performs other related duties as required and assigned with a high level of professionalism.
