We are seeking an experienced onsite Principal Systems Engineer to work on the Advanced Field Artillery Tactical Data System (AFATDS) International programs as part of the Systems Engineering Integration and Test department (SEIT) in our Raytheon Technologies (RTX)/Collins Aerospace, Fort Wayne, Indiana office site. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to join the fast paced and exciting Raytheon/Collins team. This is a position with wide reaching responsibilities covering not only the Systems Engineering efforts, but also coordination with Program Management, Program Engineering, and Business Development.  Success in this position will enhance the reach of the AFATDS International family of products throughout the world.

The successful candidate is expected to work in a team environment to influence product designs early in the development life cycle providing software requirements, design, testing and integration for various Field Artillery Command and Control (C2) software products.  The team also provides integration and installation support for the systems at the customer field sites as well as developing and conducting training on all related products to the customer at customer training facilities.

This position is located in Fort Wayne, IN and includes significant travel throughout the US and International destinations.

What You Will Do: 

Assist customer and Program Management in shaping the requirements architecture especially for Artillery and Fire Support operations.

Support system level requirements development, design, integration and test execution.

Develop and prepare detailed requirements documents, evaluations of customer needs statements and Statement of Work (SOW) details.

Conduct Site Surveys at customer locations to analyze and develop installation, integration and training plans.

Develop detailed equipment lists to support customer implementation of the system.

Coordinate with Program Management to support customer presentations and demonstrations.

Other responsibilities include:

Install and integrate software products on customer equipment.

Evaluating, troubleshooting, and documenting system defects of AFATDS International and MC2 products.

Troubleshoot system integration, networking and security issues that may be outside the normal domain of the AFATDS and MC2 application software.

Travel to US and OCONUS locations to support software demonstrations, software installations, and end user training events (Expected travel 30-40% of time)

Qualifications You Must Have:

Typically, 8+ years of professional experience in the field of engineering or related technical discipline

Experience with military command and control applications such as AFATDS, Cannon Fire Control Systems, and/or Rocket/MLRS Fire Control Systems

Experience supporting military operations at BDE, Battalion or lower

Familiarity with military networking and Tactical Operations Center (TOC) operations

Familiarity as a software test engineer or field engineer participating in military exercises as a trainer and troubleshooter

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience

The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required

U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Prefer:

Bachelors/Masters/PhD in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science

6+ years of experience in military operations at Battalion or Battery/Company level operations.  Cannon or Rocket experience is a plus

Detailed experience and knowledge of Artillery Command and Control functions, capabilities and activities and how the automated systems support the Artillery operations

Experience with planning and executing operational training events.

Experience developing military Training and Technical Manual products.

Experience troubleshooting software applications to identify operational issues affecting system functions

Certified Military Trainer (Army, USMC, Air Force, etc.).  Preferably Artillery Training.

Working knowledge of Internet Protocol (IP) addressing, combat net radio, LAN network topologies, and troubleshooting procedures

An active SECRET US security clearance, or higher

Valid US Passport

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
