We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer to support one of our premier programs within the Air & Space Defense Systems (ASDS) business unit. Your expertise in large-scale system agile software development, as well as system capability and feature development, will be highly valued. In addition, your experience with systems engineering analyses, requirements definition and derivation, and interface definition will be critical to the program's success. You will also play a key role in developing acceptance criteria for validation and verification, with a particular focus on system-level interfaces.

What You Will Do

Conduct technical analyses to define system functionality through detailed use cases, customer capabilities, and feature breakdowns

Address software system integration and initialization challenges

Provide technical direction to development teams through CONOPS and systems design artifacts

Demonstrate strong communication skills to effectively explain complex topics to development teams

Deliver engineering support and technical guidance during the program’s development, integration, and test phases—including acceptance criteria development and architecture design

Participate in and contribute to technical reviews and technical interchange meetings throughout the program lifecycle

Identify integration challenges across ground system segments and translate technical issues into mission-level impacts

Provide mission readiness assessments based on technical integration progress, risks, and interdependencies

Communicate emerging risks and concerns to leadership and stakeholders, offering clear pathways for awareness and resolution

Recommend defect prioritization across system segments to support effective integration and achieve enterprise test objectives

Qualifications You Must Have

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience

Experience development of large software data processing system architectures, with a focus on system-level interfaces

Experience with systems engineering lifecycles, roles and functions, with specific experience in some of the following areas: operations concept development, requirements management, functional analysis/synthesis, interface definition and control, and/or verification and validation

Development experience on a government contract

Experience with Agile and/or DevSecOps development methods

Qualifications We Prefer

Communication skills experience, particularly in translating complex technical issues into mission readiness impacts

Experience with Agile tool sets (JIRA, Confluence, BitBucket, etc.)

Experience working with requirements in DOORS or other requirements repositories

Experience working in DevOps and/or DevSecOps in an Agile development environment

Good oral and written communication skills as well as good collaboration skills and the ability to work in a cross functional team environment

Experience leading cross-functional teams

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
