Rockwell Collins is seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer within our Missions Systems organization. This engineer will be responsible for performing System Safety Engineering tasks on new and existing development programs, typically involving flight deck avionics, communication, landing systems, ejection seats and/or navigation radios.

What YOU Will Do:

Performs Safety Hazard Analysis per MIL-STD-882, SAE ARP4761, etc. guidelines

Performs task Bid for new or modifications of existing programs as required.

Attends Design Reviews, support any design or quality escape investigations.

Assists in work standard developments.

Provides Safety Analyses training and coaching for new entry level engineers.

Manages programs through their life cycle

Creates cross-business product synergies to support business objectives

Focuses on meeting delivery commitments, exceeding customer satisfaction and growth plan

Oversees bidding and responses of winning proposals

Maintains portfolio cost, schedule, risk, support, manufacturing, and quality metrics

Develops solutions in mitigation / prevention of program challenges

Supervises appropriate use of resources allocated to the program to ensure efficient use

Leads IPT decision making and applying critical thinking where incomplete data exists

Establishes internal and external networks and effectively motivating a team

Conveys vision to their IPT and stakeholders both inside and outside of the function

Communicates with senior executive leadership regarding matters of strategic safety importance

Qualifications You Must Have:

The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required

U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience

Basic circuit analysis Experience is required.

Proven experience to read schematics and BOMS

Experience in reliability techniques (RA's and FMEA's)

Experience with writing technical reports

Qualifications We Prefer:

Knowledge of MIL-STD-882E (DoD System Safety Standard Practice) and SAE ARP 4761 (Civil Aviation Safety Assessment Guidelines / Methods) Prior experience applying MIL-STD-882E and/or SAE ARP 4761 System Safety assessment techniques in the design of safety-critical products, preferably for military end-users.

Prior experience in developing Event Tree, Fault Tree Analyses using software such as CAFTA.

Familiarity with change management and requirements management tools Familiarity with typical Reliability Engineering reports (e.g. Failure Modes Effects Analysis) and primary factors defining their suitability for use in safety assessments

This position requires an individual that can perform with minimal direct supervisory support. As such the candidate must be highly motivated and a self-starter. The ability to coordinate several projects and complex engineering activities while balancing priorities and schedules is a must.

Pilot training / flight experience is a plus, as is a practical knowledge of physics relevant to physical equipment hazards.

Mechanical or Electrical Engineering discipline degree with 4+ years of experience working within small electromechanical or gyroscope similar assembly/products.

ERP experience such as SAP, Oracle, etc

Related Mechanical/Electrical Process Engineering experience

RCCA tool practice such as Six Sigma and ACE

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
