This position has the responsibility and authority to lead a team of Test Engineers to develop and perform verification & validation activities for software and systems to ensure Medtronic’s cutting edge medical products meet our user’s needs and our quality and reliability standards.  This position requires technical expertise and provides team leadership to solve complex technical problems with ingenuity and creativity.  Position contributes to strategic direction for all aspects of Test Engineering including programs to positively impact development, production, installation, and service of products to the global marketplace.  Work is performed under limited direction.

A Day in the Life

The Principal Test Engineer is primarily responsible for strategic and tactical execution of Test Engineering activities to support user facing validation including summative usability validation.  Specific tasks include:

Coordinates activities of the validation team to ensure project timeliness to goals, objectives, and milestones. Supports recruiting and developing staff.

·       Plan and conduct user validation testing, including user recruiting, designing and conducting usability tests, summarizing, documenting and communicating results.

Ensures compliance with standards and regulations, including ISO and FDA QSR. Participate in all phases of product development as needed such as reviewing requirements, design, usability, risk assessment and defects. Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other test engineers. Identifies plans and executes test process improvements as a means to continually improve the performance of the Test Engineering team. Develops new approaches to solve problems. Maintain proficiency in the use of testing tools and methodologies. Effectively communicate and present findings, problems, and solutions within the team, organization, and outside the organization including recommendations for actions and prioritization. Collaborate and maintain excellent working relationships with team members and stakeholders. All activities must be performed in compliance with the Quality System. Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations. All other duties as assigned. Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree in a technically related field is required Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have Expert programming skills in C++ Experience with other programming languages, for example Python, Go, or Java. Expert knowledge in designing, developing, testing, and documenting software infrastructure systems and system components. Experience in large-scale software design including OOA/OOD and design patterns. Assisting with project timeline estimation and planning efforts Experience using Git-based source control systems Strong knowledge of modern software design, development, debug, and test practices. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Leadership and mentorship capabilities. Ability to work in an Agile team environment. Experience with scripting languages: bash, Perl. Familiarity with Git or other modern version control systems. Experience with development on GNU/Linux platform. Experience with modern, iterative software design processes and development practices (Scrum, Scaled Agile Framework, Test Driven Development). Working knowledge of Continuous Integration tools, for example Teamcity Software development experience in the medical industry or other regulated industry. Project management skills, including planning, estimation, and requirements management. Expertise in 2D and 3D image processing, computational geometry, signal processing, non-linear optimization, or position measurement/metrology algorithms.
