Job Description

Wise has already pioneered new ways for people to transfer money across borders and currencies. Our customers can also manage their hard-earned money with the world’s first platform to offer true multi-currency banking.

We are looking for an experienced Privacy Counsel to lead on data privacy matters across the NorthAm and LATAM regions.

Your Mission:

Do you love taking on big challenges? Do you have a detailed knowledge of privacy and a passion for innovation?

Our Global Privacy team is part of the legal tribe and supports teams throughout Wise in protecting the privacy and security of our customers. We are looking for a talented privacy expert to support our NorthAm and LATAM businesses. 

You will work directly with business and engineering teams to design and innovative privacy solutions for products, as well as with legal, compliance and risk teams to embed privacy compliance for the region. 

This role will be in Austin to provide local time-zone support and to co-locate with other members of the Wise Legal team.

What You’ll Work On

Localise group policies and drive the implementation of global and regional requirements for the NorthAm and LATAM regionsPartner with business and engineering teams on the design and launch of innovative products for the NorthAm and LATAM marketsAdvise on the privacy aspects of Wise platform partnerships and arrangements with partner banks and financial institutions, including contractual arrangements Support expansion activities for launching Wise products and services in new jurisdictionsOversee privacy compliance for NorthAm and LATAM entities and support reporting to oversight committees and entity boards in the regionsSupport periodic global and regional audits of privacy compliance within Wise.Keep up with evolving regulatory requirements in the region and translate them into actionable business requirementsSupport implementation of the Wise AI Governance framework, monitor emerging AI regulations and guidelines in the NorthAm and LATAM regions and support associated regulatory change initiatives

You will be obsessed with detail and happy handling competing priorities and differences of opinion. You will have strong project management skills and be able to break through walls to get things done, collaborating with cross-functional teams to find practical solutions. You will have:

Excellent academic credentials. Minimum of 8 years privacy experience at a top-tier law firm or in-houseStrong understanding of existing and developing privacy, data protection and data security laws in the NorthAm and LATAM regions.Experienced in handling privacy inquiries, complaints and incidents.Experience in privacy by design and data protection impact assessments Experience in dealing with regulators on privacy matters.Experience in drafting and negotiating privacy related contracts and developing compliance and auditing frameworksComfortable taking the initiative and working across multiple business lines and jurisdictionsExcellent written and verbal skills in EnglishAdmitted to practice law in at least one NorthAm state. A problem solving attitude, with the ability to use regulation together with data to drive business decisionsAbility to drive and deliver projects from inception to completion, timely and with attention to detail Experience (or interest) in working in a fast-growing environment.

Desirable

Relevant privacy qualification, such as CIPM, CIPP or equivalent.Hands-on experience of GLBA, FCRA etc.Knowledge of new and developing state laws relating to privacy, security and use of AIHands on experience of AI GovernanceExperience of relevant technologies including data anonymisation, PETS, artificial intelligence and familiarity with ethical frameworks, data governance and accountability
