Join Team Amex and let's lead the way together. **Summary:** As a key member to Japan Market Compliance team, this position will be responsible for implementing the necessary process and controls in the areas of Privacy and data protection, providing advice to the business and support business projects and innovations from privacy perspectives, ensuring the effectiveness of privacy programs in line with Japan regulatory requirements, global policies, and best practices. This position will have opportunities to work with a wide network of Privacy professionals in the regional office and central teams, will also be provided with career development opportunities to get exposures in other compliance areas to become a well-rounded compliance professional. This position will be able to get comprehensive exposures privacy programs, such as policy making, compliance monitoring & testing, risk assessment, reporting, training, and advisory work. This is a great opportunity to work in an international environment that provides career opportunities in a broad scope, offering great benefit and flexibility, and work-life balance. **The company is well recognized and ranked No. 3 for “Best Companies to Work for" In Japan (2024 ranking).** **Major Responsibilities:** - Implement the necessary process and controls to ensure compliance with both local regulatory requirements and global policies. - Responsible for providing review and advice to the business (day-to-day queries), participate business projects as an SME in assessing privacy exposures, enabling business innovations, and ensuring risk mitigations. - Establish appropriate framework and governance structures; develop policies & procedures; design and execute 2 nd line compliance monitoring and testing; conduct deep-dive analysis. - Build and maintain a strong relationship with the business groups and privacy SMEs, key stakeholders within / outside Japan; drive the business to implement continuous improvements; proactively learn and leverage best practice from other markets. - Design and execute privacy awareness programs (e.g., Privacy Day, trainings, lessons learned) **Success factors to this role:** To understand compliance requirements for financial services industry and credit card business, combined with understanding of business processes / systems / operational controls. Clearly communicate the critical compliance requirements to business and control & compliance stakeholders, effectively explain the risks and implications, and build a strong credibility as an SME. Make collaborations essential, demonstrate positive “can-do” attitude and leadership. **Preferred qualifications** - 4 years of experience in the field of privacy / data protection or information security, or other related fields - Knowledge of and experience with Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information and other jurisdictions such as GDPR; experience working with overseas stakeholders a PLUS - General knowledge or experience of information system, applications, and system security - Fluency in both English and Japanese, both written and spoken; strong communication skills to coordinate, present, and influence stakeholders; able to handle conflicts in a constructive manner - A team player, willing to contribute to areas outside of your field of expertise when necessary - Strong sense of ethics, analytical thinking; skills on time management and project management **Qualifications** We back our colleagues and their loved ones with benefits and programs that support their holistic well-being.
