Position Summary
Under general supervision, the RN demonstrates and utilizes knowledge and skills to provide direct age-specific and culturally appropriate patient care through the use of the nursing process based on knowledge of principles of growth and development, serves as a clinical resource, participates in patient and staff education, demonstrates leadership, and serves as a preceptor. Unit Description
What we are:
5 Main is a 36-bed stepdown intermediate care unit that specializes in vascular surgery, telemetry and stroke. 5 Main is part of the Cardiovascular Division at Spartanburg Medical Center (SMC). Staffing is comprised of RNs, PCAs (patient care associates) and UAs (unit ambassadors).
What we do:
Some of 5 Main’s vascular surgeries include aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries and amputations. 5 Main is the secondary stroke unit at SMC and all the nurses on 5 Main are NIHSS certified, which we help you obtain during your orientation period. All the beds on 5 Main are monitored beds. 5 Main cares for a variety of patients with telemetry needs, providing an environment conducive to extensive learning and skill development. You will be exposed to many types of patients on 5 Main aiding in your ability to provide great care to anyone that chose Spartanburg Medical Center to meet their healthcare needs.
Nurse to patient ratio on 5 Main is 1:4.

Our unit leadership:
5 Main’s nurse manager has been a nurse for 19 years with all of those years of experience on 5 Main. She has been in unit leadership for 13 years in various positions such as charge nurse, clinical resource nurse, assistant nurse manager and now manager. Our assistant nurse manager has been an RN for 10 years - all of her experience has also been on 5 Main. She has been assistant nurse manager for 3 years. They are very active and visible on the unit, interacting with staff and providing support daily. They encourage strong teamwork and teambuilding activities on a regular basis including contests and events, both at work and outside of work.
Minimum Requirements
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Baccalaureate Degree preferredExperience
Minimum of 1 year of experience required to work PRN
License/Registration/Certifications
Current R.N. licensure in the state of South Carolina or Compact State BLS Required ACLS and PALS/NRP as determined by Unit patient demographics
