The Cardiovascular Testing at the Heart and Vascular institute has a PRN opportunity for a Stress Technician at PPMC.
This position reports to the Supervisor for Nuclear Cardiology/Heart Station, performing clinical responsibilities including diagnostic stress testing using exercise or pharmacologic induced stress, under the direction of nuclear cardiology physicians and Advanced Practice Professionals.
Responsibilities:
+ Obtain vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation)
+ 12 lead electrocardiographic placement (to include skin prep) and monitoring
+ IV placement (separate IV competencies apply)
+ Assess patient’s ability to walk safely (i.e. identify fall precautions, appropriate clothing, asses gait)
+ Monitors, prints and documents electrocardiographs as appropriate
+ Notifies clinical staff of EKG changes, and other safety concerns
+ Assures completeness of test reports including data editing.
+ Documents patient exam data in department electronic log sheet.
+ Maintains laboratory inventory (supplies, emergency drugs, and equipment).
+ Identifies equipment failures with EKG machines and places service call to appropriate equipment vendor to coordinate repairs.
+ Explains the nature and risks of exercise protocol to the patient.
+ Knowledge placement and process of Holter monitoring devices.Minimum Requirements:H.S. Diploma/GED And 2+ years experience in a health care setting with patient interactionAnd Experience acquiring and basic interpretation of a 12-lead EKG.Bachelor's Degree Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Cardiovascular program, or Exercise Science and some clinical experience preferred Experience taking blood pressures preferred. A minimum experience of one year in stress testing preferred.American Heart Association CPR certification is required or must be obtained in the first month of employment.Skills and Abilities Req Pref Skill/AbilityCandidate must know placement of 12-lead EKG and do basic interpretation and pass a competency within six months.Candidate must learn placement of IV’s using sterile techniques and universal precautions and pass a competency within six months as applicable by location.The candidate must have the ability to use proper handling techniques of drugs and equipment.The stress tech must willingly assist physician, NP, PA, or coworkers during stress testing and when needed.The candidate must also have ability to respond correctly in an emergency situation after initial training.Candidate will be required to perform various types of stress testing after initial training period, including pharmacologic, cardiopulmonary, stress echo, routine, and nuclear stress tests. Candidate must be able to evaluate individual patients’ abilities and needs, and to communicate effectively and appropriately with others.
