Job Description
Develops case plan based upon risk assessments. Ongoing negotiation and update of case plan with client to address changing needs. Determine staff and community resources available to address those needs and make referral as appropriate. Consistently evaluates and monitors the client’s reentry needs and ensures continuity of reentry by having the proper supports in place for those clients returning from prison, jail or residential. Document case plan progress and involvement, and amends case plan as necessary. Supervision and monitoring of probation/parole clients within Level classification 3, 4 and 5. Maintain contact standards set within said levels ensuring structured and purposeful contacts by utilizing core correctional practices, role playing, skill building exercises (Serin and Carey Guides), modeling, and reinforcing appropriate alternatives to pro-criminal thinking during individual session with clients and/or facilitating programs such as IDAP/MRT. Conduct and utilize assessments that identify risk, need and responsivity for the purpose of developing effective intervention strategies targeted at reducing recidivism. This may include the IRR, DRAOR or other criminogenic needs assessment. Maintain a thorough and detailed case file for each client verifying that the necessary documentation is timely and accurate. Documents client-related contacts in file and strictly adheres to department policy and Iowa Code as they relate to confidentiality or records. Assess/identifies alcohol/drug use and conducts urinalysis/breathalyzer tests and other available technology. Conducts home checks as required or needed. Reviews and upholds court order obligations and establishes connections with available resources. Clearly communicates to offenders explaining conditions of supervision, legal terms, legal documents, and state and district policies and procedures. Mediates crisis incidents with clients. Supervises and coordinates client financial matters. Assist with budget planning and ensure compliance with Iowa Code in making payments for facility rent, restitution, enrollment fees, etc. Prepares and presents accurate written and oral reports on offenders for Courts, Parole Board, Administrative hearings, in-house staff and outside agencies on compliance with established deadlines. Follows established procedures for securing and serving warrants. Completes training and refresher training on assessment and case managing tools used by the district. Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
+ Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field.
+ A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience in a human services or criminal justice field, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
+ Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes 18 months of full-time work as a Probation/Parole Officer 1.
