Process Control Engineer

Responsible for the creation, maintenance, administration and optimization of control systems in order to minimize process variation and reduce costs. Process Control Engineers provide technical expertise in Pulp and Paper manufacturing process control systems
Key Responsibilities:
Supports and fosters safety and environmental compliance Support all aspects of the operation regarding process control/E&I related equipment and issues Works closely with Maintenance and Operations to identify and resolve issues. Leads troubleshooting efforts of systems and processes. Helps promote technical skills in E\I technicians. Manage and direct consultants, contractors, and vendors during controls related projects. As part of the Process Control team, shares in the responsibility of providing weekend and off-hour availability to support Process Control mill needs as well as startup support from planned and unplanned shutdowns. Evaluates, troubleshoots, and maintains system hardware. Support IT Department as needed to support plant. Utilizes modern process control theory to design and configure systems on new and existing processes Assists project engineers and managers in the planning, development, and implementation of capital projects. Engages in development of short and long-term planning of system upgrades and migrations. During project design, assists with coordinating the development of control logic and system configuration between the Operating Department and control system suppliers. Participate in factory checkout of equipment prior to delivery to confirm design and functionality. Maintains a strong emphasis on process improvement projects, while presenting customer focused innovations, cost saving improvements, process optimization, etc. Designs and implements control system logic based on process knowledge, applicable safety and environmental requirements, operational need, and maintenance requirements that provide clearly defined benefits. Provides technical support and training to guide changes to plant process and procedures in order to reduce process variability, improve product performance, reduce manufacturing costs and improve operating efficiency. Maintain specified equipment records. Participate in downtime maintenance and readiness planning and project management activities. Train production employees in analytical problem solving and decision making techniques if applicable. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, participating in professional societies Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis to help resolve outstanding issuesQualifications & Education:
BS Degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering is preferred, other engineering degree acceptable with adequate DCS, PLC and HMI application Experience 3-5 years of electrical, instrumentation or process controls (Pulp/Paper manufacturing experience preferred) Ability to support operations and maximize mill efficiencies via process control consistency and operability. Statistical Process Control knowledge is desired Strong technical, problem solving, decision-making, project management, and computer skills Possess strong communication and teamwork skills. The ability to achieve results by influencing others and supporting the overall business. Experience with Honeywell TDC, Honeywell Experion, Valmet, Rockwell & Modicon DCS & PLC Systems
