About this opportunity:

The Process Control Engineer / Technologist in Training is part of the Operations Technology (OT) Integrity and Integration team. This role will be key to providing engineering support to our established Risk Management programs. This includes alarm management, process control performance, boundary management, operations situation awareness, automated prescriptive and functional safety.

The successful applicant will have an aptitude and curiosity in developing a wide breadth of knowledge within OT, Automation and Process Control fields. With an emphasis on engineering, safety, governance and the ability to manage a variety of initiatives.

Work Environment:

FOSTER CREEK

This is a full-time employee position working a shift of 7 days on 7 days off, 11 hours 25 mins per day, Wednesday to Tuesday

Foster Creek has full-service camp facilities

Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations

Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton

What you’ll do:

Actively participate in Cenovus Safety programs and abide by Safety Policies

Optimize alarm system performance in accordance with Alarm Management Philosophy and design / alarm rationalization / suppression techniques

Control loop performance management which includes bad actor identification and problem resolution, loop tuning, and development of process control strategies

Implement and maintain control and shutdown strategies on the automation systems

Participate in facility-based Process Hazard Analysis as Operations Technology representation, as required

Support OT business opportunity identification, development, and project management through the change management process and Engineering Work Package (EWP) development

Manage FCCL facility I/O allocation program

Maintain and develop OT Thermal Recovery specifications, job Instructions, guidelines, knowledge base articles, drawings and procedures

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

Legally authorized to work in Canada

Engineer in Training or Technologist in Training

Experience with the Engineering, Operation & Maintenance functions of a Thermal Recovery facility

Demonstrated aptitude of maintaining Operations Risk Management Programs - Alarm Management, Control Loop Performance, High Performance HMI and Operating Boundaries

Familiarity with Honeywell, Emerson DeltaV, and Rockwell control systems, as well as OT applications such as historians, ticket-based work management systems, and remote connectivity, would be an asset

Experience with Hexagon Plant State Integrity software and electronic shutdown keys (eSDK) would be an asset

Demonstrated knowledge of process control and safety systems

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate
