We are looking for a skilled synthetic organic chemist to join Process Chemistry R&D in a role which offers unique synthetic challenges with impact on projects from discovery to commercial implementation of our small molecule Active pharmaceutical ingredients API.
This offers a great opportunity to be part of a great team and to play a key role in supporting Lundbeck’s development pipeline (small molecules) and help develop new medicines to treat Central Nervous System (CNS) diseases.
Your new role
As process development chemist in the department of Process Chemistry R&D you will join a dynamic team who have the responsibility of enabling the progression of Lundbeck’s rapidly expanding pipeline. In this position you will have the unique opportunity to be involved in many aspects of the development value chain, from route scouting to scale up of chemical processes under cGMP and eventual transfer to commercial production.
Your key responsibilities include:
Develop new synthetic strategies for our small molecule pipeline. Develop safe, robust, and scalable chemical processes. Ensure we develop sustainable chemical processes that are suitable for commercial production. Support the scale up of our chemical process in our internal facilitates. Coordination with our external CMO to ensure the progression of our pipeline. Representing Process Chemistry R&D in cross functional development teams Ensure data is generated to support regulatory filing for e.g. collaboration on the API control strategy.
Your future team
Process Chemistry R&D is part of the Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) organization, where our goal is to scale-up and implement new synthetic processes as well as the GMP manufacture of novel Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). The production of development candidates will be internally or using capacity at one of our CMOs due to the dynamic nature of our pipeline.
Your future team has a strong teamwork culture where collaboration within the unit and the whole CMC Area is vital to their success. The team is highly focused and use our GMP facilities in Lumsås and CMOs to scale-up and implement new synthetic processes for the manufacture of novel Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) under changeling timelines.
Process Chemistry R&D is located at two sites in Denmark (Valby and Lumsås), the holder of this position will be located at our Lumsås site with some travel to our Valby site.

Hold a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry. Have specialised in synthetic organic chemistry. Have experience in scale up of chemical processes. Show initiative, work in an organised and flexible manner. Thrives working under strict timelines and is goal orientated. Good communication skills, it is essential that the candidate has a desire and ability to communicate and collaborates effectively with colleagues and members of other departments. (Team player) Knowledge or experience of GMP is an asset, but not essential. Fluency of English is essential. Solid written and oral Danish is needed.
