We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Process Development Engineer/Scientist to join our Technology & Innovation team located in the Tonsley Innovation District in Adelaide.  ZEISS is committed to working with the successful candidate to further develop and broaden their skills. The key responsibilities for this position include (but not limited to):

Development of processes for blocking, milling, turning, grinding and polishing for the production of ophthalmic lenses, as well as edging processes for the final eyeglass shape for ophthalmic lenses.Improve existing processes currently running in operations to improve overall yields.Conduct research to understand the interaction between material properties, machine and process parameters.Execute agreed projects as well as development of own initiatives relevant to above areas.Support the introduction and transfer of new technology into ZEISS operations.Occasionally provide technical support to production and quality on surfacing related technology issues.Test the capability of new technology for the machining of ophthalmic lenses.Develop an appropriate understanding of optics and the lens design and manufacturing processes.Develop an understanding of product quality measures, tolerances and standards.Contribute to the definition and agreement of product quality measures that impact process development.Understand and use required measurement systems to evaluate products.Understand and apply appropriate systematic design, process development and project planning tools.

The key requirements for this role include:

Degree in Engineering or Mechatronics with a focus on machining or a degree in Science with focus on materials research or optics.Ideally have experience between 3-6 years.Current ability in mathematics desirable especially statistics, design of experiments and machine capability studies.Programming experience with Matlab / Python would be highly desirable, however other languages also regarded.Experience with Siemens or Beckhoff PLC controllers desirable.Experience in CNC machining would be well regarded.Overview of tactile and / or optical production metrology.Ability or knowledge of CAD packages with minimum basic level of usage.Knowledge and experience with 3D printing for prototypes.Desire to pursue a path as a technical expert.Enthusiasm for balance of hands on and theoretical work.Equal ability to work effectively as an individual on one’s own initiative and as part of a team in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment.Good English communication skills both written and verbal.Project Management skills desirable.Strong work ethic.Available for international travel, as required.Available for flexible work hours for international collaboration, including meetings.
