Process Engineer Role

Process Engineers are essential WL1 roles critical to the transformation of our factories through driving improvements and eliminating losses from a technical perspective. The Process Engineer role is a key contributor to stabilising the reliability of the lines in a factory through application of respective tools and methods of COMPLY, PERFORM, IMPROVE and TRANSFORM phases of the Manufacturing Framework, developing technical operators as well as setting up semi-autonomous team to be successful.


Main Job Purpose
To provide the technical expertise necessary to design, develop, and implement manufacturing systems, complex manufacturing operations and sophisticated machines. Work assignments may be specialised in nature but may also be broad based with coordination between other staff personnel to complete a larger project.


They are responsible for defining standards for the process and all activities on the line and to continuously monitor and adjust in the spirit of continuous improvement. The Process Engineer is the owner of the standard definition and deployment within the line crews. To do this they need to work closely with the line crew and develop with them agreed standard.


They will apply extensively the full range of Focussed and Quality Improvement methods and tools to counter losses identified in the areas of Safety, Quality, Cost Deployment, Customer Service and Logistics.
The Cost Deployment pillar will be populated with data built up through application of the Managing Manufacturing Performance Code, which is key to ensuring focus on key losses.


Working directly with the line crews on a daily basis, the Process Engineer also acts as the technical trainer for line teams and provides coaching in phenomena identification, root cause analysis and the establishment of counter-measures.

The Process Engineer is responsible for the validation of all process improvements and the establishment of revised basic conditions on the making area or packing hall area equipments.
A core deliverable is eliminate losses and wastes and increase the stability of the line to support the transition of traditional line teams to semi-autonomous teams.


Process Engineers:
• Master quality control, maintenance, industrial engineering, production planning and control and even confidential product development. They will continuously refine existing production systems and develop new innovative systems to ensure greater competitiveness
• Develop, analyse, and manage Manufacturing / Assembly Projects.
• Assist in developing department capital and expense budgets. Maintains the department capital forecast.
• Administer the assembly NPI process to ensure that Engineering drawings are released and processed on time for NPI build.
• Engage in creative problem solving to address operational issues including ergonomic/ safety, efficiency improvements, process bottlenecks, quality concerns.
• Work with internal and external suppliers to develop and manage projects to ensure efficient and cost-effective systems and processes to produce quality products.
• Provide the application, procurement, processing, installation, and capability of new technologies (heat treat, welding) and / or chemical processes and equipment.
• Design, develop and implement the integration of manufacturing systems including factory control software, scheduling techniques, simulation, and systems application.
• Coordinate, plan, monitor and report the activities associated with the flow analysis, design, financial modelling, and implementation of complex manufacturing group technology cells in an assigned area.
• Provide manufacturing technical support in process control and internal certification.
• Coordinate the purchase and application of machine tools, controls, and related equipment corporate wide to ensure the latest technology is being used to increase efficiency and economy of operations.
