Axalta is searching for a Process Engineer to join our team in Cornwall, Ontario!
As a Process Engineer, you will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, and resolving technology-related issues within the paint manufacturing process. This role acts as a key liaison between the manufacturing team and the research & development (R&D) department, working to optimize production efficiency by leveraging new technologies and innovative solutions. You will play a critical role in improving production workflows, reducing bottlenecks, and enhancing the overall quality of manufacturing operations.
The Process Engineer will conduct chemical and/or chemical engineering related experiments, complex technical operations, or information search/analysis projects and optimizes and interprets methodologies and analysis and suggest experiments or alternative approaches.
Key Responsibilities:
Technology Implementation & Optimization:
· Lead efforts to integrate new manufacturing technologies (e.g., automation, data analytics, process control systems) into existing production processes.
· Evaluate the current manufacturing technology stack and recommend improvements to enhance productivity and reduce downtime.
· Provides input into technical discussions. Effectively communicates work progress/research results by giving internal presentations at project team meetings. Participates in customer and supplier meetings.
Bottleneck Resolution:
· Identify production bottlenecks related to technology or equipment inefficiencies and work collaboratively with manufacturing and R&D teams to implement solutions.
· Use data-driven analysis to assess the root causes of production delays and propose technological upgrades.
Collaboration with R&D and Manufacturing:
· Collaborate closely with the R&D department to ensure that new paint formulations or processes are feasible for large-scale production, and technology requirements are met.
· Serve as a technical liaison between manufacturing teams and R&D to troubleshoot any production challenges that arise from new product development.
Project Management/Teamwork
· Drives defined programs.

Technical Knowledge
· Knowledge and use of concepts, practices, procedures. Applies basic knowledge of coatings, resins, and curing chemistries for certain coating layer, technology, or process to a business specific application.
· Basic understanding of more than one analytical and further testing method for coatings. Uses in-house technologies to develop new products and to improve existing products.
Technical Approach
· Analyzes, characterizes data and suggests solutions. Uses DOE to propose sets of experiments.
· Proposes new product ideas based on effective literature searches.
· Knowledgeable of safety regulations and company standards.
· Initiates non-routine improvement projects and applies statistical analysis to solve problems and trouble shoots within established procedures.
· Knows, recommends, and/or utilizes various testing methodologies and demonstrated ability to develop or scale-up new products.
Troubleshooting & Support:
· Provide technical support to the production floor, assisting operators and engineers in resolving equipment malfunctions and production disruptions.
· Train production teams on new technological tools and systems implemented in the manufacturing process.
Qualifications:
Required:
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
· 3+ years of experience in a process technology, production technology or process improvement role,
· Experience using a data-driven approach to resolving production issues.
· Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including R&D, quality assurance, and production management.
· Ability to travel to US as needed. Must have a Valid Canadian Passport.
Preferred:
· The ideal candidate will have experience in the paint or coatings industry.
· 2+ years’ experience working with paint manufacturing processes, including batch mixing, quality control, and formulation technologies preferred.
