Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Wind Process Engineer Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineering related problems.  Independently lead continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions, and cost reduction projects.  Initiates drive to fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer objectives.  Develops and executes plans to evaluate new technology or improvements in existing technology resulting in a superior product in terms of quality and/or cost.

Key Responsibilities Provide engineering-level production support to manufacturing operation Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues Provide trend analysis of key metrics and implement response plans Lead projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, and new products/processes Actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects Recommend/implement improvements to processes and equipment Identify chronic issues and provide corrective actions Provide leadership or support for startup of new equipment lines Develop and update engineering and operations documentation Provide training for operations workforce regarding equipment or operations changes


Travel Requirements:  Less than 5% Hours of work


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:  8-10 hours/day; 40-50 hours/week.  This position requires flexibility as manufacturing issues arise and requires off-hours coverage on nights and weekends on a rotating basis with co-workers. 

Experiences/Education - Required BS or MS in Engineering discipline 3+ years of engineering work experience in a manufacturing/production environment Ability to make sound technical decisions both within and outside areas of expertise Strong communications skills and customer orientation Ability to work effectively on all levels of an organization Project management capability, particularly coordination of multiple, inter-related tasks Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Use scientific method and engineering first principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well designed and executed processes Ability to learn new technology and processes quickly Creative/innovative problem solving Strong data analysis and statistical skills Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and Access (queries, databases) Experience with experimental design Experiences/Education - Desired Electrical knowledge - NFPA70E Six Sigma Greenbelt certification Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting Project management experience Experience with statistical packages such as Minitab

The range for this position is $78,902.00 - $108,490.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
