JOB SUMMARY
This position has responsibility for directing and controlling the quality and technical functions in Heat Treat and Grain Etch for compliance to internal and customer specifications. This involves overseeing inspections, training, performing audits, reviewing scrap, maintaining documentation, and acting as primary focal point for internal and external communication in the assigned areas.
Performs highly complex tasks, working independently with little supervision to provide critical heat treatment for castings per Industry standards such as AMS2750, Customer Specification requirements and various Heat Treat furnace equipment training courses. Responsible for attainment of metallurgical properties often detectable only by destructive testing. Responsible for decisions during heat treat cycles to avoid scrap.
This position is responsible for implementing and ensuring that all Wichita Falls Heat Treat and Grain Etch processes are performed in compliance with established methods, materials and equipment specifications and that best practices are implemented.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Become proficient in Heat Treat and Grain Etch Processes.
+ Inspects castings to customer specification as required.
+ Controls inspections through specification required tests and procedures. Maintains associated documentation.
+ Manages departmental materials and equipment to meet production requirements.
+ Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
+ Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
+ Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
+ Comply with all site required policies and procedures including but not limited to: EHS, Quality, Code of Conduct, and the Wichita Falls Employee Handbook.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Heat Treat Process Owner/ Grain Etch L3 individuals shall:
+ Have the skills and knowledge to Interpret codes, standards, and other contractual documents that control the Heat Treat process and NDT methods.
+ Be capable of assuming technical responsibility for the Heat Treat/GE facility and staff.
+ Approve Heat Treat/GE procedures and work instructions for technical adequacy:
+ Have a general knowledge of methods and product manufacturing and test technologies used by the employer:
+ When specified in the written practice, have a basic knowledge of aircraft, or vehicle maintenance.
+ Be capable of providing or directing training, examination, and certification of personnel.
+ Conduct NDT for the acceptance of parts and documents the results if a demonstration of proficiency in this ability was included in the practical examinations:
+ When required by the written practice, be capable of auditing outside Heat Treat suppliers to ensure the requirements of the written practice are met.
+ Communicates with Engineering regarding production problems.
+ Reviews rework and scrap parts.
+ Interacts with Level II inspectors regarding production disposition.
+ Interacts with customers and engineering personnel to review existing, develop new or improved processes, as required.
+ Participates in facility and L2 audits (NADCAP, ISO, Howmet Aerospace internal, operator).
+ Maintains qualification of production equipment.

2. Training:
+ HT501 Required Training for Process Owner to be completed and approved by the BU Thermal Process Owner.
+ A training program must be completed to acquire knowledge and skills in accordance with industry NDT standards.
3. Equipment Used During Heat Treat & Grain Etch process training:
+ Pallet Jack & Walk behind fork truck
+ Burr Guns & Blast Cabinets
+ Operates atmosphere furnaces for steels and aluminum as well as vacuum furnaces for super alloys, controlling all parameters.
4. Work Environment: (Chemical and Physical Exposures)
+ May be exposed to noise, oil, dust, fumes, chemicals, heat, cold, or wetness.
+ Some exposure to changes in seasonal temperatures.
+ When performing Grain Etch, exposure to heat requires special safety equipment to be used and maintained (i.e., rubber gloves, aprons, boots, face shields and respirators) in non-air-conditioned atmosphere.

Basic Qualifications:
+ B.S. in Materials Science, Metallurgical, Electrical, Mechanical, Ceramic, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
+ Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
+ This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant’s ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
+ Basic Computer skills.
